Recently, my Westinghouse fridge that is 3 months out of warranty giving me an CL error, called Westinghouse and They insist ACL doesn’t cover labour but just parts, is this correct?
Does ACL Cover Labour Cost?
Comments
Nope. It covers everything needed to bring it back to working condition. Some have even argued for having it picked up, returned and installed back into place.
What was the length of the original warranty?
2 years
At 3 months out, I would expect them to cover everything, but if it was 2 or 3 years past the warranty expiry, you could give a little and pay labour while they paid parts.
Thats a scam to make you pay the cost price of the parts
Well if a fridge had a 3 year warranty and it was 2-3 years PAST this, then its 5-6 years old….. Paying a REASONABLE hourly labour charge is acceptable in my books to have it repaired.
Fun fact, ACL rights are not instant, if the company says no, then you have a uphill battle on your hands. Its not a simple lodge a ACCC fault and its magically fixed. Sometimes bending a little helps.
I would do the same to remove potential headache, but then this fridge is 2 years and 3 months
@Toughcookie: As per my first post on this
At 3 months out, I would expect them to cover everything
So in your case, no you shouldn't be paying anything.
Electrolux (which Westinghouse is a part of) are the worst company I have ever dealt with for warranty/after warranty issues. They actually tricked me into getting a repair man out saying it would be free and then he had no notes about it being free and he wouldn't do the job until I sorted it out on the phone, which the same call centre lady then lied to me saying it was never free and now I would have to pay for everything. The repairman left without doing anything, and then they had the nerve to send me a bill for the callout fee. It took me around 3 years to get my Westinghouse oven fixed. Also their call centre operators tell you that they don't have any managers to escalate complaints to, but if you push enough, you will get one. My advice though: Get EVERYTHING in writing from them and do not give up. I now do not knowingly purchase anything by a brand owned by Electrolux (Hoover, AEG, Dishlex, Simpson etc) even if it is a bargain. It's just not worth it…
Shame on you. Call ACA.
@suchislife - If the item is under warranty, how can they charge you?
I’m about to have Electrolux look at one of my products (under warranty) let’s see how this plays out.
Long story, but basically it was under warranty when I first called them, and by the time they sent a repair man around (after multiple phone calls), it was out of warranty, and they said there was no record of my initial call.
It covers everything. Report them to fair trading in your state & the ACCC.
