Drivers seat replacement - Ford FG

Hey,

My car seat has been kind busted in, torn, and metal rod is exposed and out of shape (inner frame I believe). Previously mechanic said it was unroadworthy.

I’ve sourced a replacement seat and got it home, it looks identical, Ford fg sedan drivers seat, however it seems to be electric adjustable, while prior mine was the old school manual lever adjustment kind.

I know to replace I disconnect the battery, remove the 4 T50 torx screws under the plastic, and unplug the 3 wires underneath.

  • My question is; Will the newer electric seat be powdered by the wires already in place or does it need a seperate wiring loom or something?

It’s getting serviced next week anyway so if it’s too much trouble I’d leave it for the experts, if it’s as straight forward as I put it above I’d be keen to have a crack and save myself some dollars.

It’s a 2009 Ford FG sedan XT falcon if it helps 😄

  • I don't know but if there is a plug that fits to the new seat it should be ok you would assume. HOWEVER be careful. does the seat have a side airbag built in. if you get one if the wires wrong it may set it of and ruin your new seat

I would ask on a Ford forum or Facebook page to be sure

I had a 2010 FG XR6 and it definitely had a side of seat airbag. Check your user manual if you have one. Great car but heavy on tyres.

It’s likely the wiring loom is already there. It’s not uncommon for them to use the same look across many models at the factory. But as above, you need to check with some ford experts.

Go onto Aus Ford Forums, the guys there are a very knowledgeable bunch of lads.If they can help, they will.

  • Ford never put “extra” wiring for anything in their cars. You could possibly swap the seat base of your current seat over to the new seat, but you’d want to make sure the airbag and seatbelt wiring for the SRS system are the same.
