Need glass replaced on ladies citizen echo. Quoted $40 from mister mint. Is that a rip off? Can't imagine it taking long to do. Can't pay $40 watch was only $100.
Cheapest Watch Repairs?
Comments
Couldn't comment on whether that's a rip-off. However, I can say that one of my local independents wanted $24 just to change a battery. I do it myself with batteries ordered on ebay and considering I've only spent roughly $10 on three different sets of batteries, I think I'm reasonably ahead in terms of costs on three watch batteries replaced.

Do it yourself then.
Parts are available on eBay, but you might need a tool to open the case.
I could find the citizen echo glass, but a quick look on ebay, shows most watch glasses for a citizen watch are in the $20 range to buy, so $40 for it to replaced seems fair.
My point was, people without the skills/tools or knowledge of part costs to do the job themselves complaining about the 'cost' to have it repaired, just because they think it should be cheaper.
Agreed. $40 is pretty reasonable.
@mskeggs: $40 is very reasonable. This is likely to take 30mins to an hour to do.
How much do you make an hour? You have to take apart the watch and you need some special tools like a watch press and you need the piece of glass which on some watches isnt cheap.
I do get it though, you dont pay 40% of cost to fix a $100 watch.
On a $1,000 swiss watch its not even a discussion…
You would be best asking PJC, MathNerd or WatchNerd…. oh…. sorry, cancel that… :(

Where are you located? If Melbourne, Bob Shao comes highly recommended. My friends take their watches to him, and I once took a watch to him for repair, and he flat out told me the repair would cost more than the watch is worth, and I should just buy another watch!

You could try an independent watchmaker/manufacturing jeweller.
