Delivery of Sofa - Super Amart

We have been shopping for a sofa for a while, and finally has our eyes set on one after Christmas.
The first impression we got was waiting period is around 4-6 weeks, so we thought it's ok.
But when we paid the Deposit, was told it'd be 15-weeks, early April-2020.
On hindsight, probably should have walked off. But we were both exhausted and tired of looking and just signed the Order…..

Now with the CoronaVirus problems, friends said even Nick Scali is advising their Customers to expect delay.
So I rang Super Amart and the person just dismissed me, by saying "we have not heard anything".

I'm just worried that this is going to be a longer delay, but cant really pressure Super Amart for a "commitment".
Am I getting too paranoid?
Everyday I look at our new couch and wish we hadnt made that Order.

Please share with me some ideas or thoughts.

    is it made to order ones? or just order from China and wait for shipment?
    If its the latter i believe you can get your money back and order elsewhere for the sole reason of they cannot fulfill the end of the deal which is 4-6 weeks..

    Isn't it out of your hands?
    I'm assuming you can't cancel the order, and with external issues impacting on manufacture and delivery, it seems to me you will just have to wait it out.

    Is there anything on your purchase receipt covering the scenario if SuperAMart cannot supply?

    It's not early April yet. But yeah, I'd factor in an extra 2-3 weeks for coronavirus delays.

    Ask them fot floor model or cancel in will be at least 3 months if your lucky.

    Go to the store and politely ask the manager if you can cancel it… Worth a try?

    Check the paperwork and see what the cancellation policy is if you don’t want to wait for it. If you like it, just be patient and they will get it to you!

  • Thank you all for your reply. It is unfortunate about this Virus thing, many business are affected and I do feel for them
    (And I just had a flight cancelled by the Agent, still trying to comprehend the whole thing)

    I have rang the Sales Person and he had sort of just dismissed me to say that he has not "heard" about any delays.
    Will wait a few days and when we are out and about, to see if I can swap for any floor stock…..

      That's all he knows. If no one has told them that there's going to a be a delay, then that's all they can say.

    Looks at todays date….. Yes still Feb 2020….. Your order is still 2 months away or is it……..

    Impressive that you can look at your new couch everyday before it has arrived :)

    At this stage, who knows where you're order is, you really shouldn't be worried until late March, early April.

          Contracts are funny things, they signed and accepted this time frame, so to turn around a few weeks later and claim its unreasonable, isn't really going to fly.

              It is once you have signed a contract to purchase those goods. Every and any retailer in Australia doesn't have to accept goods back just because you 'changed your mind', yes most do, but the law says they don't have to.

              You think the furniture company is going to sue over a couch ? Probably not.

              You might be surprised, but the OP won't be getting any of the deposit back. Thats for sure.

  • yeah it seems Amart has a long backlog ETA, we ended buy the one they have stock and we are glad we made that decisions over the popular/big discounted couch but back order. to save some money we opted to pick up but the next day received a call and they offered free delivery instead.

  • I ordered a couch from Nick Scali a few years back it was 8-10 weeks declared wait, but it actually took 14 weeks :/ I think they just send a ship every month or so and unless you’re getting floor stock that’s what it seems to be now everything is made overseas.

    Just look at what you signed up for on the contract or receipt you received when you stumped up. What did you actually agree to? Are they certain they can't make that? You can't get a refund if they still say they can meet that date…
    I once ordered a couch from Nick Scali and they did quote 6-8 weeks but at 8 weeks they said further delays so I got my money back then. If you signed something and they haven't confirmed they can't meet it then I doubt you can get a refund.

  • Gosh, you've got the worst luck. Did you end up getting your car with the cream interior that you so wanted?

      Yes got the cream interior but with a hint of black. Comes with free sunroof which we didn't want but it's free so what the heck…

      Did you hear my China flight got cancelled but the Agent wants us to pay cancellation fees? Well, happy to pay for the sake of our health:-)

        That doesn't sound right. Why should you have to pay cancellation fee for a flight that was cancelled by the airline?

        • I know, guessing that's for her hardwork as there's 20 of us. The others didn't object so far.

          Will wait til the refund comes in and see the group's reaction.

  • Would have negotiated to only pay a small deposit if the wait is that long and only pay off once the couch arrived. That would have hastened them to ship it quicker too …

    Anyway i don’t think most furniture shop would offer that option…

    Update:
    They rang to say shipment is delayed to May. We went into the store and told them we are willing to take anything from the the warehouse …. Unfortunately They don’t have Anything that’s comparable.

    Long story short, the Manager approved the cancellation of the Order, and we should receive the refund of our Deposit.

    Must give credit when credit is due: we are very happy with Super AMart on how they handle this case, and it’s unfortunate that we couldnt transact this time. We totally understand Businesses is doing it tough, and we have no hesitation to go back to them when we need our next Lounge….
