Sydney - Where can I rent a Pajero Sport for a couple days' use without paying an arm and leg for it?

Hi all.

Pretty straightforward question. I'd like to rent a Pajero Sport to use for a couple of days before I buy the car (best way of doing a test drive is to actually drive the car for a few days :D) but I only know of Hertz with that car (or similar, which I don't want!) available, and the daily rental prices combined with total cover would end up being around $200.00

Now that's not the end of the world, but I usually rent at Bayswater and their prices are absolutely amazing - and for pretty good cars too! - although they don't have this vehicle in stock, sadly.

Would any good bargainer know of a place in Sydney where I can rent a 2018+ Pajero Sport, please?

Thank you!

Why not ask for a 24 hour test drive. Most dealers will accommodate as it helps a lot with conversion rates.

      You've just blown my mind!
Is that even a thing? I'd never even heard of that before!

I'm interested in purchasing a used one, as I unfortunately can't afford a brand new car, so would that still be the case?

      Thanks!

Yep for sure it is. Just tell them you're keen but just want to be sure it's the right car for you. If it's a very small dealer they might not do it but the bigger ones should be easy to organise. Hell, I did this for a used car I didn't even buy almost 20 years ago so it's been around a while.

  • I am not sure arms and legs are accepted as legal tender in Australia

      A Kidney, then, perhaps?

      • Is that you Kerry?

Just buy a white corolla… then u can test drive at bayswater no probs.

    • Their REVs are pretty darn good for the price!
      But that's not what I want :/

  • Have you seen the bleeding butt rear on those things? It also looks like it's riding on stilts. Ring some rental companies nearby and ask for a quote for one specifically.

    • Yeah, it's ugly as heck, but I want a 4x4 that still drives pretty comfortably in the city.

It's either that or Prado and for what I'm going to pay on a 2018, I'd have to go back to 2015-2014 on a Prado, with a lot less fruit, no warranty and more expensive maintenance :(

Not much of a choice at the moment.

      Thanks

      • Utterly fugly car but to each their own. Might be worth trying local Goget pods to see if they have any. I think they have Outlanders so might have moved on to these.

      • fortuner?

      • Pajero?

Prado is also significantly slower. I had one for a week as a hire car and simply couldn't live with it. I ended up buying a Pajero Sport. Very happy with it. Performance is a lot better than a Prado too despite the similar power and torque figures on paper. Only things I liked more about the Prado were a roomier cabin and a plusher ride on rough bitumen.

A MY18+ onwards Pajero Sport will also have adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking on all models. ACC is brilliant, I would struggle to go back to a car without it.

      • I'm sure you could somehow cover up the bleeding/crying section of the rear and it would look a million times better. I thought of making them and selling them, people would pay good money for that.

        • Not a bad idea!

    Try carnextdoor?

    • Never used it.
Doing a search on it right now!
      Thanks for the advice!!

Just wanted to thank you again.
      This was BRILLIANT advice.
I've just reserved to pick up the car this Friday for a GREAT price!

Hopefully the service is good and there are no "gotchas" :D

      Thanks again!

Photograph all damage, otherwise you might receive a surprise bill towards the end.

        • Thank you very much for the tip.
I've contracted the full insurance, but will make sure to take detailed photos of everything!
