  • I guess we will only see it cheaper when the C10 (CX) comes to AUS.. Anyone have any news about that?

I think they usually release in April, but I heard Coronavirus has had a negative effect on panel production in China.

looking forward to the LG CX48"
I would go the LG C9 55, but its just too big for the room and desk unfortunately.

        • I tried a 40" LED TV on a desk with 1m distance from me. It was too large to comfortably see the whole screen. I think 34" may be the sweet spot for desktop use.

          • @reactor-au: hmm.. damn, wasn't hoping an answer like that ha.
The guys on youtube at CES2020 we saying it was comfortable with a distance of 3 feet, but i guess they are there and excited.

I have a 34" wide screen now and could use vertical heigh and not horizontal width. and thought this could be a good answer.

            • @jt0505t: Imagine it being about 25% larger but more so on height than width

            • @jt0505t: maybe this will cheer you up haha

              • @elli0t: yeah i saw that clip. 65" is miles too big ha!

            • @jt0505t: If you're looking at it as an alternative to a stacked multi-monitor setup, it's fine, but it is essentially four 24" 1080p monitors slapped together.

I really do think it's a good alternative to most ultrawide options today, especially once it gets down to $1000. It also blows all the HDR monitor options away unless you're only viewing bright content in a bright room.

              • @jasswolf: multi monitor doesn't interest me. I want to play games on my PC with a immersive experience. Those wide screens that wrap around almost 180 dont interest me. Text on the screen is harder to read with normal monitors at 4K or even 1440p as not all games scale well beyond 1080p.

                • @jt0505t: Just turn on scaling in Windows? It would almost certainly recommend >200% to you at 4k…

Didn't have any other problem with 1440p at all when I was using one.

Not sure you're going to get the exact experience you're looking for, but VR headsets will have microLED options in 3 years.

Have you actually demoed an OLED for this purpose, or an ultrawide monitor for that matter? The curve is actually useful for those, not a gimmick (and it's never a hindrance).

Need to find a floor stock deal like this

    • Will be an expensive flight to pick it up.

  • +2

Although I believe LG is a great company and offers really good service and support. My personal experience with an OLED has not been very good. My OLED TV panel burnt out in less than 4 years. I have now reverted to the LED technology.
An OLD does offer great viewing experience however, I believe LED or QLED might be a better option if you are seeking longevity.

    • Can I ask which model you had and what kind of usage patterns? I'm in the market for a TV and have heard the current gen have much less burn in issues.

      • LG 55-inch Curved OLED 3D Full HD TV (55EC930T) - average viewing time approx. 2.5 to 3.5 hrs max every day.

        • +1

I have the same panel, bought in Jan 2016. Probably used 2-3hrs a weeknight and typically more on the weekend.

Image is still perfect, no burn in at all. Runs the screen refresh every time I power off. Did you turn that off maybe?

    • Yeah that's why I was looking at going with the Samsung Q80 range, no burn in issues and a proven technology.

Although it does suit manufacturers to have TV's that die quick because then you have to buy another one!

I've still got a 10 year old Panasonic 55" Viera Plasma… no burn in to speak of and I leave it on all the time with static pictures lol

      • +3

And to think plasma is less reliable than oled haha. So many people are so scared of oled. It's like no one ever had issues with lcd lol. I ended up going with the cheapest deal I could find which ended up being this TV.

        • I've got an original plasma screen in my beach house games room. It's a Pioneer 506 and it's still going strong after 15 years. It did cost $9000 including the set top box back in the day however.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: So if you bought a $9k oled I wonder how long it would last? Clearly you don't use it much haha. No lcd has lasted longer than 7 years for me without significant issues, mainly backlighting.

            • @onlinepred: It was the primary TV in the main house for the best part of probably 10 years, until it got replaced by a 4K TV about 5 or 6 years ago. It was used every day. Since it made its way to the beach house games room it's not seen a lot of usage.

              • @[Deactivated]: Wow that's longer than most LCD's last. Lucky you!

                • @onlinepred: Well it did cost $9k. You'd expect it to last. Colours are still brilliant. Resolution is not. $9k 15 years ago is more like $14k now, so you could get a hell of a TV for that kind of money.

                  • @[Deactivated]: What on Earth are you doing on ozb if you are looking at TVs for that much lol.

                    • @onlinepred: Current main TV is only worth $4k. $9k was what you had to spend to get a 50 inch plasma back in the day. Most people still had 68cm CRTs. Pretty sure LEDs didn’t exist and LCDs were new in the TV world and only went up to about 30 inches.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: That's pretty good, I've already had to replace the "X drive" circuit board in the parents one (after about 10years) and now the "Y drive" has gone and it won't power on.

      • +1 2008 50" Pana plasma…love it so much

      • +1

I got one of the last gen Vera plasmas and have the abc 24 logo burned into it. A channel I’ll often watch. It usually only goes on on weekends and has the 4 hour shut off if left on feature…. still burned in after about 5 years, got used to it now.

      • Somewhat ironically the only burn in I've experienced so far has been on LCD computer screens :o You can burn anything in with enough effort. My first Samsung LCD Monitor had the start bar burned in within a few years.

I haven't had problems with modern devices of any technology as yet.

    • +1

Have a family member who bought an LG OLED, it is
just about to be 3 years old and LG is offering stores credit to replace it as it has issues.

Within 12 months already had multiple burn ins from various TV shows and they were things that might have been watched for an hour here or there etc.

Within about 18 months some of the colours started to look a bit off in the middle of the screen. Not too noticeable.

By 36 months the problem was so bad, didn't matter what colour was on the screen it was obvious there was a problem.

LG sent out a tech, he took one look at it, like literally just looked at it from across the room and said the issue is X and he would recommend LG replace it.

This is only one experience, but everytime I research OLED I see the same stories, meanwhile research things like Samsung and few complaints.

Edit: fwiw I've previously owned 2 plasma TVs and currently own a QLED, never had any burn in or any issues.

      • +1

Ive had my LG B6 since 2016. I game heaps on it and watch even more tv and movies. I have had zero burn in issues, still loving the picture quality. So I think it just comes down to being unlucky. People who have issues are far more likely to post about it online than the majority of people who dont have any issues. Im defs going to continue to buy oleds until microled or another new technology.

      • What content did they watch?!

That's not at all the typical experience!

Have a 930T curved 55" OLED that's nearing 4 years old, used pretty heavily and still perfect to look at.
Still have comments from guests asking what it is and genuinely being surprised at the picture for a 1080p screen.

      • Like some of the other comments above, OLEDs can suffer burn in, and people do have issues, but there is a screen refresh/recalibration routine the TV needs to run each day.. if that is disabled or the TV is physically powered off at the wall, then the TV will never be able run the protection/calibration measures and you'll get a screen with visible burn in. Online you always hear a lot of comments that are negative, for good reason, people only come and complain when something is going wrong, the majority of people aren't complaining online, they are happily at home watching their TV and not giving it a second thought.

    • I've seen the same comment in every OLED deal recently from you. I don't understand the relevance or point of this comment.

Only buy Japanese made TV's or else it won't last 20 years plus.

        • What Japan made TV is better than this?

The 65" B9 is only $2,466 + delivery from Appliance Central. Are the differences between the B9 and C9 worth over $500?

    • Is it confirmed that the B9 will do 4k@120 hz?

      • As far as I can tell, the B9 will only do 4K at 120 Hz over HDMI 2.1 (when consumer HDMI 2.1 devices are available); but the CX (and I assume the BX) will do 4K at 120 Hz over HDMI 2.0 (according to this LG rep, although he probaby means 120 Hz, not 120p…).

        • +1

the CX (and I assume the BX) will do 4K at 120 Hz over HDMI 2.0

          Only at a reduced colour depth (4:2:0, non-HDR) and most HDMI 2.0 gpu's can't push 4K@120hz anyway..

          • @elli0t: Still useful for typical TV/gaming content, but not useful as a PC monitor. The point being is it tides you over until HDMI 2.1 cards/consoles (Q2-Q3 this year).

  • Can we use 28 degrees price protection for something like this? or does it not qualify as its via ebay?

    • yes you can
