Ezymart 25% CC Surcharge?

Hello,

Ezymart processes a surcharge in all card transactions.

The % is not disclosed on signage but it assures that the amount displayed on the POS is what I am charged.

i.e 1 x small coffee displays $1.00 (no surcharge) or $1.01 (depending on who is serving) but my statement proves I have in actuality been charged $1.25 (25% surcharge seems excessive?)

Just now it happened again (POS showed $1.00 but charged $1.25) and I checked the reciept from their device and the girl who processed it just shrugged her shoulders and pointed to the sign.

That extra 0.25 adds up so need to check my statements.

Their email support is not responsive and not much action on their Facebook.

Cheers,

Frantic

    Sure it wasn't a 25c surcharge?

Merchants are no longer allowed to charge an excessive fee, but they can set a minimum amount to use credit.

This merchant should either have a minimum purchase amount or a lower percentage amount. If OP complains, they may set a minimum fee and OP will no longer be able to pay $1 coffees by card. (next post: Ezymart 5x $1 coffees to use card?)

The ban does not prevent you from imposing a payment surcharge as a flat or fixed fee, however you will need to ensure that the amount of the surcharge does not exceed your cost of acceptance for any given transaction. - Source

They use the example $4 coffee, and a 50c fee isn't allowed.

      • Thank you that was very helpful

    • Depending on who they are using as their card provider.

The big stores are about 1% card fees.

      Smaller businesses are around 1.5%.

Some card facilities talk about a 20c fee + 1%. For those that don't believe it look at Paypal 30c + 2.6%

I have never seen a customer in there before

    • everything in there seems expensive

  • Is there a question? Title implies it 😂

There's got to be better coffees out there!

  • I'm confused…

The % is not disclosed on signage but it assures that the amount displayed on the POS is what I am charged.

    … then you mention.

the girl who processed it just shrugged her shoulders and pointed to the sign.

So there is actually signage? What does it say?

    • OP can't/doesn't read, hence why the girl pointing out the sign didn't mean much. :P

  • Cut up the card, pay it off, cancel it and find a better offer

  • Hello,

    Thanks for the replies.

The signage basically says there is a Surcharge on card transactions but doesn't mention how much but reassures you get charged whatever appears on the POS.

Checked my statement.. in a few instances this is correct.. charged $1.01 as displayed on POS after attendendant manually keyed that in (implying 1%) and in other instances such as yesterday despite seeing $1.00 on the POS (not $1.01 or anything else) was charged $1.25

Obviously this doesn't seem possible.. I did insert my card yesterday (reader acting up apparently) when I usually tap and pay.

Ok not the end of the world.. but in one instance I am slugged 1% and in another 25% or 25c how ever you see it without being informed prior..

    Thank you

Tap and Pay uses credit interchange fees. When you insert your card, are you selecting Savings?

      • I did yesterday, yes.

          That'd be why.

Credit card transactions incur a 1% fee
Savings transactions incur a 25c fee.
