Penny 22-inch Skateboard $77.84 Shipped @ SurfStitch

180
BAE30

Genuine Penny board available in 3 boring colours, with the dark green deck the cheapest after applying 30% off code. Qualifies for free express shipping.
Not the cheapest it's ever been, colours aren't that great but still cheaper than buying direct from Penny.

Other colours are 55 cents more expensive.

Weird dark browny/purple: https://www.surfstitch.com/penny-22-inch-complete-dusty-purp…

I've had a few of these boards before. Flexible deck is durable provided you don't do dumb stuff like deliberately getting it run over by a car or ollieing off massive stair sets like Aaron Homoki.

The hardware on these boards is also heaps better than buying no-brand completes from department stores and general sporting goods retailers.

That said, I always recommend upgrading your bearings for better cruising if you want to take it further e.g. Bones Swiss if it's within your budget

bones swiss waste of money imo. reds are just as good and a hell of a lot cheaper

Modus bearings are also a good alternative. They are an Australian brand and cheaper too.

    • reds are fine to begin with but after having them for a while, i find the quality of the metal in the casing isn't as resistant to rust as the swiss bones. that, and they don't seem to last long before needing a clean and re-lube.

i skated the swiss bones for almost 2 years straight out of the box before it needed a service. bones reds, probably about 7 months.

      • i have both and found a lot of dirt after cleaning my ceramics every few months. they would always be smooth for a month after cleaning then slow down, just like reds.

        • mine weren't the ceramic ones, just the standard L2

Yeah but that $9 Kmart one looks better

Spend a bucks on some better bearings and bushings and you'll be ahead with a better ride

You get what you pay for. Its no proper skateboard but the trucks are far better on a Penny board over a knockoff.

      • True but it's all about putting your money where value is.

For my 20kg kid $20 bushings and $20 bearings will improve boardfeel way better than me worrying about the alloy strength of the kmart trucks .

        Flex is probably bouncer too

        Penny wheels are also better.

i've looked at the wheels of many Penny knock-offs and they're just too stiff and plasticky. not really what you want in a cruiser wheel.

Yep this too. What people don't realize is you can't cheap out on boards in general especially on the Wheels and Trucks (and bearings). You are actually getting a good board with Penny for $78 (even if its novelty one). Also once you look at upgrading a cheapo Kmart board you as well just bite the bullet and spend the extra.

$16 for the board + $25 to upgrade bearings + $12 for bushings = 50ish dollars with worse trucks/wheels/deck and a waste of your time. Did you really save money at the end of the day? I will concede maybe putting 20-25 bearings on a Penny board is a good tip but out of the box is far better experience than a cheapo Kmart board. Also you are supporting the Australian skateboarding scene when you buy from Penny rather than Westfarmers.

Just life advice in general is to pay that bit extra for the better product rather than cheaping out, you end up spending more in some cases whereas if you just did the proper thing in the first place.

          • @[Deactivated]: i definitely did spend heaps more than the original $15 for a kmart 17" mini board several years ago :D (i wonder if they still sell them?)

ok, i wanted the form factor of a mini popsicle deck that i just couldn't find anywhere else.
first thing i did was ditch the bearings and tiny plastic wheels that wouldn't even roll properly on the smoothest concrete.

it had plastic (lolwut?) trucks which i tolerated for a bit while some Tracker 3" trucks were on their way. they soon got ditched, along with the questionable bolts that looked rusty already. replaced with Indy bolts (one of the few hardware brands with larger bolt heads) that wouldn't pull through the soft paper mache deck.

i thought that was it for the mods until i noticed the weak excuse for grip tape was already peeling off. sigh. after the spray-on grip tape job, and more than $100 in parts later, the only original thing left was the deck.

i'm the sort of person who likes fiddling with a set-up and it's fun if you don't set yourself a budget. other times, a complete with all-round decent hardware is a better starting point.

I'm beginner to skating. Bought a cruiser from Decathlon on sale. Anyone can comment on the quality and if it's worth upgrading to Penny? Noticed some used ones going for cheap online too https://decathlon.com.au/collections/skateboards-longboards-…

    • I also found the Oxelo Drop 140 Longboard at Decathlon for $99. Seems good value and was easy enough to get used to since I'm a noob.

  • Great! Now I get from my office to the pub for lunch in record time when I have a meeting in the city

  • anyone can explain this one https://www.ebay.com.au/c/1029103260
and the one that posted apart from color?

    • The description of the eBay ones states "Brand: Unbranded"
From that and the lack of logo on the pictires (except maybe the pink) I infer they are not Penny brand.

      • thx. that explain the price.
