Good mobile plan under $50

Hello All, My partner was on a $49 cap (her bill never went over $49) with OPTUS and I got the connection cancelled without any penalty as she is having major issues with call quality and connection. The signal just drops out most of the time and she was not able to make or receive calls. So, looking for a new plan for the same or less price than what we were paying with a reliable service. She wants a new handset as well because we have to return the old handset (sony ericsson x10) which was crap anyways. She shopped around and looks keen on a vodafone connection but somehow the reputation of vodafone is what's stopping me to sign a connection with them. If it helps, we live in the CBD of Melbourne in a 6th floor apartment.

I asked her to go on prepaid with the Telstra $40 cap+ offer which is offering $550 credit, 1 GB and free talk & text to all australian numbers between 6 pm and midnight (free talk and text expires in couple of months) but she wants a smart phone as well becasue her iphone 3G is playing up a bit.

Any help and suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Have you looked at the $49 Telstra Freedom Connect plans?

    • Yes, I had a look at the plan and it will work well for my partner but none of the free phones on that plan are good. You pay $15 even for an iphone 3gs 8 gb.

      • Well given that it looks like you are ruling both Optus and Vodafone out, that only leaves Telstra, and the only phone within your budget is HTC 7 Mozart. Optus is generally the compromise for cost and call quality, but since you are having issues with them, it does limit your options.

        • Yes, thats true. Last time I called Vodafone, they informed me that they were going to put a new antenna around my area. I was thinking to buy a pre paid vodafone sim and check out the call quality and signal strength and then make a decision. If everything works out ok, at least I can get a samsung galaxy s2 in my budget.

        • +1

Yeh would at least test Vodafone out with a prepaid sim before ruling them out entirely to keep your options open. Last thing you want is to be committed to them on a 2 year contract.
