Usually sells for over $100, been declining in price to this all-time low. Good price for a decent brand.
Dont forget CR/SB.

Already have a 1200, was keen on that 2000. Not to worry, thanks for the suggestion though.

Damn…missed it.
Been looking to buy a couple. What brand do people recommend, and why?
I have a few Shapton Pro. First decent stones I've had so can't compare with other offerings. Local seller below with good prices…not much stock atm though.

Unless you're getting diamond stones they'll wear in the middle (dish) and you'll need something to keep them flat. Those more experienced than me can do this with a small stone but can't imagine it's easy to do properly. There are cheaper options I went for a diamond stone larger than my whetstones to keep them flat.
Something like this is a cheap easy alternative at around $30. Diamond stones are about $10 each in varying grits. It's not idiot proof and does take a little practice but much easier to get a consistent edge than freehand.

which lapping stones did you end up getting? I need one myself but not sure where to go.
Q: Is it OK to use sandpaper to flatten a sharpening stone's surface?
A: No, abrasive paper can leave a stone clogged, with the result that the blade slips and it is impossible to sharpen it.
or I can get diamond plates from ebay AU - 600 grit
generic 180grit silicon carbide lapping stones
a bag of silicon carbide grit (and flat glass) from Jewellery supply
I used to have an Atoma #600 but lost it about a year ago. Started looking at cheaper alternatives but will probably just get another one.
Worked flawlessly and still felt brand new after a few years of use
The Shapton FAQ even recommend lapping low grit stones by rubbing them together!
Q: Can lapping be carried out by rubbing stones against each other?
A: Yes, it can. In such cases we recommend rubbing three sharpening stones against each other, in turn.
I've heard pebble whet stones are good.
Didn’t last long, two left, cheapest now $108.
