Panasonic quits Australian retail TV market! Thoughts?

Comes as a bit of a shocker after reading this article

I thought their OLEDs were some of the best in the market.

That pretty much leaves LG and Sony along with possibly Hisense in the OLED market!!

Maybe something to consider before purchasing Panasonic tvs!

They've gone into partnership with Toyota to start producing EV batteries.

The new company Prime Planet Energy & Solutions will be employing over 5000 people.

Obviously more money in that for them.

    • more eneloops then

  • I thought their OLEDs were some of the best in the market.

Don't know about quality but they lost the race to LG when it came to OLEDs.

    • I thought all non Samsung OLED panels were LG panels

      • LG panel is the biggest producer of oled screens (TV,PC,Mobile) and is a separate company to LG TV.

        • So I'm right then?

Panasonic OLED Panels were not made by Panasonic?
Understood that the processing logic may well have been Panasonic specific and elevated Panasonic TV's above other LG Panel resellers.

          • @ESEMCE: yes, you are correct.

Damn. Our 2009 50" Pana plasma is still going strong, still a great picture. Just a shame about the energy consumption!

    • Our 2013 55 inch plasma is still going strong too. If the software was updated, and more apps were available would be better but nothing a chrome cast can’t fix

  • Nooooooo! This makes me sad.

Ill be honest, not surprised - I never considered buying a Panasonic TV since the CRT and Plasma days. Sony / Samsung / Hisense / LG have been market leaders for a while on LCD and Panasonic probably didn't have the shipping volumes to compete on OLED profitably.

  • I have always bought Panasonic Vierra TV's,
I don't know what to buy now :(

  • Junk LCD tech is killing the competition… this isn't good news at all. Prices will surely go up.

  • Not surprising years ago when I worked in the tv department of JB Panasonic couldn't afford paying for their supplier wall and had to pull them all down, their tv's and quality never improved ie smart software remotes etc and their reps were old and lazy so doesn't came as news to me

    • Their software and remote, even on their new tvs was pretty mediocre. The picture quality and the processing on their oleds have been excellent though.

I am a Sony fanboy myself, but its a shame to have less competition. Worried that the prices will now be set by LG and Sony moving forward!
