Thanks OP. Perfect timing after Summernats.

  • I got pretty outstanding mileage with Hankooks on the wifes car.
    Amazing really

  • Deal was the same last month. "Ends 31st January" - I purchased tyres using this deal last Thursday.

    https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:pUP1Lh…

  • They have the same deal on Goodyear and Laufenn tyres (not that I've heard of this brand before):

"Add 4 selected Laufenn LK01, LK41, LH01, LH41 tyres to cart and receive the 4th Tyre Free. Standard fitting costs apply to the free tyre ($20). Free tyre offer ends 29 February 2020."

"Add 4 Goodyear assurance triplemax 2 tyres to cart and receive the 4th Tyre Free. Standard fitting costs apply to the free tyre ($20). Free tyre offer ends 29 FEB 2020. "

    • Laufenn tyres (not that I've heard of this brand before)

      Laufenn is a Hankook sub-brand

    • Bob Jane dont appear to have Hankooks available.

      • I have bought Hankooks 2 yrs ago from BJ. Best to call your local to confirm stock in your wheel size.

    • Thanks.

Do you have to use that online form or can you just go to a store ?

  • whats good for a prado?

    • +1

The Hankook MT range … but I don't think they are included in this deal.

      • you can fit the RS4 or the evo2 (or any tyre with a suitable load index) on the Prado, but you wouldnt do well with them offroad as they are a high grip road tyre.

        • Except they (RS4 or evo2) don't come in Prado sizes.

          • @lomie: 'Prado' is not a tyre size.

they absolutely do come in sizes that will fit a Prado. you'll need to have appropriate wheels and clearance from the body, however.

            • @Laserface: What are those sizes?

              • @lomie: how long is a piece of string?

                • @Laserface: We're talking tyres. Not strings. What size tyres in the RS4 or evo2 will fit on a Prado?

                  • -1

@lomie: Ah, I see, you dont understand the question "how long is a piece of string?" nor do you specify:

                    what year model prado?
                    what trim level?
                    aftermarket wheels?

Google tells me, after typing in 'toyota prado wheel size' (because wheel size is independent of the model name, and also can vary between trim levels and years of manufacture, and ultimately what dictates what size tyres you can fit) that the toyota prado has 17" to 18" wheels that are 7.5" wide.

thus, you absolutely can fit a Hankook RS4, as the recommended size for a 18" x 7.5" wheel is between a 215/45r17 and that size is listed on hankooks website.

should you fit that tyre to that vehicle? probably not but it will fit.

now you might be arguing that they dont make these tyres in the OEM replacement size (which, FYI, is 265/65R17 for a 2018 Prado.) that is correct! doesnt mean that you cant put on the above size, just means its not equivalent to the OEM fitted tyre.

to REALLY blow your mind, the 265/35/r18 RS4s im putting on my car are also not the OEM size (235/40r18) but they fit the wheels I have on the car and the vehicle just fine.

I will cede that they dont make the evo2 for this 'Prado' but thats because Ive proven my point already and CBF looking it up to argue with someone who doesnt understand that wheels, tyres, and cars they fit to is about more than a name plate.

                    • @Laserface:

                      And is that size roadworthy?

                      • @lomie: you move goal posts more than the greenskeeper at my local footy field.

For anyone who lives in Sydney, Tempe tyres on most tyres still comes out cheaper even with the 4th tyre free nonsense on Jax

    • +2

Counterpoint: you have to deal with Tempe Tyres.

      • curious, whats wrong with Tempe Tyres?

    • I get my KO2s from Bob Jane T-Mart in Edgecliff. Competitive prices with price matching. New stock (not ageing old rubber like a local one I first went to) with free install and alignment and even a free check up after 3 months. Can't really fault them.

  • I have 17" wheels on my Focus, which basically puts me into sports tyre range! It's annoying that's it's $400 for such a small hatch!

I saw Win Rs for $50 a tyre, but even with fitting it's around $300. So it's $300 vs branded Japanese $400+
The reviews on the Win Rs are actually good! I did make a post about tyres, and I was surprised how passionate people were about safety! Haha

    • diameter of the wheels doesnt really dictate what type of tyre. you should be able to find tyres suitable in economy models (eg. bridgestone ecopia) for your car.

IMO you should be spending as much as you can afford to on Tyres. 400ish a set fitted and balanced is the minimum I would be paying for any car.

      • Literally Pilot SS aren't much more than base Japanese tyres

So I do feel it's a little ridiculous that performance tyres cost $200 more in total than basic tyres for a hatch.

Bar the cheap Chinese tyres, there isn't much under $100-120 a tyre.

    • I just replaced my Outback's 17in with Michellin Primacy 4 at Costco. Cost me ~180 each (after $100 rebate). So, I am not sure what you talking about. Maybe its something more than being 17 inches.

      • Unfortunately the aftermarket rims are low profile, so when I punch the specs in it gives limited options for tyre choices, mainly performance models.

        • your tyres are low profile, not the wheels (they arent rims.)

maybe you have larger diameter wheels than the factory fitted wheels? that would require you to fit lower profile tyres (the second number in the tyre size, eg. '35' in 265/35r18)

the 35 refers to the percentage of the section width (the first number, 265, which is millimeters) that the sidewall is.

if you had, as an example, 16" wheels from the factory and upgraded to 17" wheels, you would need to go for lower profile tyres to keep your outer diameter of the tyre close to the original so that your speedo is accurate. (eg. your factory wheels may be 215/50r16, going to a 17" wheel might mean you have a 215/40/r17)

you will still mostly find that when upgrading to larger wheels the outer diameter increases - it also changes from tyre to tyre, as does the section width (sporty tyres in 235 will often be wider than a cheap tyre in 235 when measured in absolute millimeters)

clearance from the body and other components in the suspension is also important. Usually, you can comfortably fit 1-2" extra diameter wheels without issue, as long as you keep the profile of the tyre lower.

Then, you have the wheel offset, which is a whoooooole other measurement that is less important when it comes to fitting tyres to wheels to cars, but when you are trying to fit the widest possible tyre to your car, you need to measure that. offset is not a measurement of the tyre so i wont go into it here.

  • I think Jax must be adding a $20 fitting fee per tyre.

The tyres I want on the website come up as $129 each, but the discounted amount is only $109.

    • it says it includes the cost of fitting balancing and old tyre disposal in the cost.

      • Seems you are both correct:

"Standard charges for fitting, balancing, tubeless valve, waste tyre management fee & GST apply for the 4th tyre for all tread patterns."

So purchase cost of the 4th tyre is free, but you will need to pay to have it fitted.

  • since when buy 3 get 1 free is a good deal anymore…virtually every tyre brand run this all the time..

    • Probably true. Nobody buys 3 tires. If you buy 4 at full price then you've been had because 4th one free isn't really free.

      • -1

are you saying that the normal price is usually discounted by 25%, when buying 4 tyres, so same price ?

        • Price of three is the price of 4. If you buy out of promotion then you are paying too much.

  • What would go well on a Toyota 86?

    • There is a search function on their website

    • something in the Ventus or Kinergy range as per the T&Cs?

Ventus RS4 are very sticky, Evo2s are less sticky.

      Kinergy are for grandmas.
