You'd need to buy the Suna traffic receiver thingie (techo term), the GTM-20 (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=403) at $129 (doubtless cheaper elsewhere, I think Ryda are a touch cheaper) to get traffic updates. You can pick the ones that have the Suna traffic receiver standard as they have T as the last letter of the model number (e.g. 1390T).
The traffic updates aren't fantastic for Brisbane (don't know about the other cities) at the moment but are slowly improving.

Possibly why it's $120 with lifetime maps. Still, you get lane guidance, text to speech (worth it for the comic factor alone) and Ecoroute.
