Genuine question, why is it so much more than other portable solar panels?

    eg. https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/products/solar/kings-200w-p…

is the quality a lot better? i am in the market for a solar camping setup and the range of options is very confusing.

    • Because its Roman. You pay for bragging rights.

List price for a similar product at SuperCheap is $429: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/ridge-ryder-ridge-ryder-…
(I got mine on sale for $299)

Found it really useful when camping in a small car since it's so portable and can double as a sun-shade. :)

Hi store rep, you are also selling Roman 200w mat and it is 1kg lighter than 160w one. What is the reason for this?

More watts, less price, no deal

Experience shows most panels sold on eBay have no where near their stated wattage, same like phone battery time advertised by manufacturers

        Depends on the manufacturer.

Sunyee panels for example are cheaper than this and very good.

  • Not that I would rate this brand, but for the "Kit" which includes the smart controller, cables, leads, ect.. the price here is quite good.

Not sure if thats a bargain. Wouldnt say RRP is $1300🤷‍♂️ Roman is a brand name I never heard. But seems like it also supplies panels to Aldi? http://offers.kd2.org/en/au/aldi/pfZSh/

    • Great Aldi Deal!!

    • G'day LukeOz83,

Good point - but don't be discouraged, as most reputable suppliers clear their old stock through Aldi. More often than not they'll rebrand the product - but in this case, Roman hasn't. Also, that specific example, we used to stock the 160W Solar Panel Kit - before it was replaced by the newer models.

      Laine

  • I think it is more expensive than most because of the quality. Most cheap brands are PET laminated. This one is apparently ETFE laminate.

PET is a polyester-based plastic and ETFE is a fluorine-based polymer. And, the main differentiating factors between the two would be strength, durability, and resistance to corrosion.

While PET-laminated Flexible Solar Panels generally have lifespans of up to 5 years, ETFE-laminated Flexible Solar Panels have lifespans of up to 10 years.
