Data Transfer to New Mobile Phone

Hi,
I'm trying to help out a friend who has bought a Nokia 6.2 to replace his old Samsung S7.
Clearly the easiest thing to do would be buy another Samsung & he could then just use the Samsung Switch App to move his data to the new phone, but anyway too late for that.

I've done a lot of Googling but the only automated programs I can find are really expensive.
The only only way seems to be to sync data on his old phone to Google & then restore it back from the new phone but it seems very messy & doesn't get all data (eg SMS history) - for example:

Does anyone know as easy & free (or cheap) way of doing this?
(or even recommendations on programs you've used that work well)

    There are a lot of free backup apps in the play store. I've used one for a couple of phones, I think it was SMS Backup & Restore, which worked great. Make sure you get an app that will backup picture messages as not all of them do.

    for SMS, you can find some free sms backup software and transfer the file and install the app on the new phone.

    What do you mean by data exactly?

    If its contacts and calendars which are your most important data this is all held on the google server just as long as the owner has logged in.
    When you log in to the same account with the new phone it all drops down into the phone automaticaly.

    For photos you just connect the phone to a computer and copy them to the hard disk.
    Or you can use any of the cloud services

    There is an app called super back up that can do all this for you including SMS and call logs.
    It can email the backup files to you so you can drop them into the new phone and restore everything.

    Search call backup, sms backup and photos backup and you are good to go

    Thanks for all the thoughts & comments - this pointed me in the right direction to look further into available apps.
