    $121/kg

    No Thanks

Hi jv thanks for your comment. Each to their own, though your math is a fair way off. Plus we have a price well under that for our 1kg range before any discount and includes free shipping. cheers Swagmans

      • +13

The sample pack contains 420g of product, so at $51 for the pack it results in $121/kg. With the additional coupon 10% discount it works out to $109/kg, which is no bargain imo. How is jv's math 'way off' ?

Also, your 1kg pack at $92 is still no bargain. I think you should pay for advertising, because this is OzBargain, not OzFreeAdvertising.

        • It's not just about how much it costs a kg. You need to look at the bigger picture of how each brand is different. I'd take this over the horribly processed tasteless crap called Jack Links at $90/kg.

          • @Clear: yeah, geez some of you people are hard to please. give the poor bastard a chance.

            • @191919:

. give the poor bastard a chance.

Are you insinuating that he doesn’t know his father and he doesn’t have much money?

        • +5

a 'fair way off' (as opposed to 'way off') is fair enough. he was ~10% out. frankly im surprised he even got that close based on the bloke's general commentary. keep on trucking JV - useful, accurate commentary as usual.

        • I think typical going rate is $69/kg .

        • +1

@boourns i just tested and the 10% works on the 1kg pack as well. so that's 82.80, shipped (please tell me if my math is 'way off'). i reckon that's a decent deal, but ymmv. you could always just go chew on your car tyres - that'd be even cheaper than jack links or 99% of supermarket jerky.

          • +2

@191919: The problem I have with the vendor's attitude is that says the maths is way off with a handwave and then doesnt say what the actual cost per kg is!!!

I have no problem if you show the evidence. People who just say you are wrong and walk away says a lot about their character… or lack there of.

@tonyjzx: That's called the Trump method; brand someone a liar and never substantiate your claim because mud sticks.

It's why I did the math and asked OP to substantiate. When they don't reply, you have your answer.

    • If it were <$80 I would pull the trigger, particularly for a sample pack. Unfortunately this seems ridiculously over-priced, even including postage.

It would be best to put the price after coupon ($45.9) in the title

    • +2

Thanks for the advice ragrum. We have updated the title.

Any one have had experience with this brand? Would love to see some comment on quality!

What about ingredients, I am allergic to some spices

  • -3

Personally I find these prices ridiculous. Aldi's beef jerky is $60 per kilo. Woolies branded beef jerky is $51 per kilo if you buy a 180g bag. If you want a branded beef jerky, a 50g bag of Jack's Link beef jerky is $3.50 at Woolies at the moment, which means it is $70 per kilo.

If you are a costco memember it is even better. Costco is selling a 310g bag of Jack Link's beef jerky for $10.39, which means Costco is selling them for $33.5 per kilo. I know you guys offer more flavours and options, but almost over $60 per kilo difference is too much.

Yes but those jerkys are absolute garbage compared to proper jerky. Those are sugar laden candy crap.

If you want that crap, by all means go spend your money on it, but I'll take swagmans and other jerky over it any day.

      • Yeah those cheaper jerkys are just preservative laden ass really.

Real jerky is more comparable to proper biltong. This stuff in op seems pretty legit even if it does look like wuhan batwings. Prob worth the money to be fair.

        • I've had swagmans before they're pretty good.

          • @SuBw00FeR: It looks decent because it still looks like meat, I'd have no hestitation in trying it over the cheaper coles/woolies/aldi crap.

  • I agree - pay a bit more for quality…

  • +1

I wanted to check the sugar content but couldn't find any nutritional info or ingredients list.

  • -2

@swagmans, i must agree above comments said your product is too pricey.
    Why?
    1. I look at your website and found 150 ml sweet chilli sauce and hot sauce for 8 bucks? Is that for real? Mae ploy @wollies 2.9, Trident 4.7. Even tabasco does not cost 8 bucks.
Why so expensive? Less calories than asian sweet chilli sauce?
    2. Your website puts pork crackling but i dont see it on the shop?

  • +3

A lot of specialty hot sauces are $8,$10,$15, you obviously have no idea. Seeing an 'expensive' bottle of chilli sauce on the OP's website is no good reason to say that their jerky is too expensive, completely irrelevant.
Also your other reason for saying their jerky is too expensive is because you couldn't find the pork crackling on their website. What the?

My advice to anyone who really likes biltong/jerky is to buy a food dehydrator and make it yourself. Depending on the cut of meat you use, you can easily make good tasting jerky/biltong for up to a fifth of places like this. The only really challenge is to get the spice mix correct but there are plenty of recipes online or you can just buy premixed spices. Honestly super easy to make and much cheaper as well.

    • i'm definitely going to do this.

    • could you recommend a dehydrator? thanks for the tip! :)

      • +1

        hi mate,

to start off just buy a cheap one on ebay under $50

      • +1

And also regarding the cut of meat. You need some a meat that is lean, fat will not dry and will go rancid. Personally we use topside. Silverside is another excellent choice of cut. trim any access fat. Also just be aware for every 1kg of meat you start with you will end up with about 300g of jerky. If you have any questions shoot us an email.

        Cheers Swagmans
