  • Yeah it is bigger than my old s7

    • I recently went from S7 to this A70.

      pretty awesome

  • Does anyone own this phone? thinking about purchasing this for my partner, but want to hear some of the owner's experience with it. Thanks!

      I do.
      Battery life is insane.
Camera is bad unless in very good lighting.
Fingerprint scanner is bad. Takes about a second and a lot of misses.

Fantastic screen. Loud but single sided speaker.

Pretty solid phone. Smooth; good CPU and plenty of RAM means no lag.

Battery above average; looking at 7hrs on-screen time on average on a full charge, however, charging is rather slow - and even slower if you have the screen unlocked; often expect less than a percent per minute.

I have found the camera to be more than satisfactory, but it will struggle in low-light situations.

Calls and audio clear; speaker has a bit of punch. No complaints from other party in calls.

UI is fine and what you would expect of an Android phone.

The screen is nice and the size still is manageable and not too heavy - but it is a tad on the long side, which makes it somewhat bulky. Width, though, keeps it convenient enough. The length can make watching videos very nice. (I've also compared my screen to my partner's Huawei Mate 20 Pro and there was very little difference in quality, with the A70 almost matching it.) Just that with the size, single-hand use isn't always that practical as you tend to touch parts of the screen with your palm when reaching with your thumb. (The screen is also more sensitive than my old phone, the Moto Z Play, where an accidental touch or brush from an object often registers as a touch on the screen, and with nearly the entire front real estate being screen, it can be rather easy for this annoyance to occur.)

Fingerprint scanner is built-in to the screen and is largely reliable, provided you have a clean and dry digit. It will take 1-2 secs upon initial touch to unlocked screen, though.

All in all, for a midrange phone, this thing is value for money. I haven't owned a flagship phone since the Sony Xperia Z1 but the A70 really does make me feel like I'm using more than a mid-tier device.

you're all awesome. Thank you for your reviews. I'll definitely consider getting it now.

    • Bought one from Officeworks last week.
Doesn't come with a clear case like the ad says.
      Just phone, charger & headphones.

Performance is good for general use. Battery life is awesome.
      Plastic casing makes it light.
Not great for one-handed use, though Samsung have added menu buttons
ans back buttons to the bottom of the screen to make it easier.
Fingerprint scanner is painful but you can't have everything.

        • There wasn't a case with mine from Officeworks & the checkout person also said no case, even though the ad says different

Was thinking of buying and mounting on the wall

  • A71 launched, would be available in Australia I guess, with better specs and macro len for close-up shoots.

This is the reason they are clearing this out and looks like the fingerprint sensor has a major improvement in A71 ( though still not as good as a physical sensor like the Pixel )

A71 is looking to be an all around improvement based on initial hands-on articles and I'm waiting to see how the full reviews for the phone is

  • they should add at least wireless charging

  • Does the one from Office Works have NFC and allow NFC payments through Google Pay or Bank App?

    • the phone has NFC for mobile payments, whether you can do apple pay, google pay or bank App will depend on your card issuer
