2/3rd eBay Shipments Are Becoming Fraud. Any One Else Observed It?

Today I received my another ebay item which had missing parts. Pretty much 2 out of 3 have either missing parts or not as per the description or don't keep their commitments.

I am getting fed up with ebay. Anyone else seeing this trend ?

What kind of items are you buying? My success rate with eBay has been almost 100% over many years.

    • Last week I ordered the SD card and today I received the shipment with just an adapter case with no SD card in it.

Couple of months ago, I ordered a hand grabbing tool, and it was broken

I had ordered another electronic item, supposed to be shipped from Sydney to Melbourne, it took a month. I used to have good wins before, but since the last 1 year I am seeing a trend. I am guessing some of them could be chinese sellers who might have fake account in Australia, and might be shipping it all the way from China.

      • I wouldn't but SD card from ebay, epscially it it's a seller from China.

        • Same. I have bought a few 16/32gb ones that show up as their size, but on testing, only come up about 1~2gb in actual size. So, unless it comes from a retail outlet or an eBay account that is reputable, no SD cards from random Chinese sellers.

This is quite common and the most unfortunate thing is eBay's refusal to do anything to stop these deceptive sellers.

Here are some of the telltale signs of a Chinese seller pretending to be located in Australia:
        - The seller has tens of thousands feedback - usually positives are between 96% and 99%
        - Item location is usually one of these: Chullora, Botany, Darwin or just Sydney, Melbourne or AU
        - Same listing using multiple user IDs

Always click on the seller name and check where they are registered in and go through negative/neutral feedback before buying and in most cases you can see others complaining about slow shipping and items coming from China.

Buying the cheapest Chinese crap you can find from drop shippers with poor feedback?

    • +1

      It's cheap though. O_o

    • How can you find out if the seller is a chinese ?

the SD card I ordered was 65$ and the guy has 98.7% ratings. It is not cheap at all.

      • +2

98.7% is rubbish. Check the feedback, if lots of people complain about it being sent from China, instead of "botany" or "Darwin", likely it's just another dropshipper.

  • Half? Yeah no…

  • Half?

how big is the sample group?

  • You mentioned 2 out 3 in description but half in the title. I'm confused. Please clarify. Thanks.

    • Yeah, It is a mistake. I wanted to write half then when I did the actual account it is 2/3rd. But looks like I forgot to change the title

  • Nope, nearly 100% success rate. Only time I have trouble is low feedback private sellers. I avoid them now
What are you buying that has missing parts?

    • I ordered SD card and got only the adapter.

In the last few months, I ordered a hand tool grabber and it arrived in broken condition

  • I'm getting a few more INR issues than I used to and recently 1 item damaged and it was obviously damaged before being posted but I've never received items with parts missing.

I avoid sellers with less than 99% feedback unless absolutely necessary which may help.

  • I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with anything I have bought on eBay. Saying that I stick to reputable sellers, as I believe you should regardless of where you shop. If you are getting burned 2 out of 3 times than you must be buying the absolute cheapest bottom of the barrel crap every time.

I do look at the ratings.. but some of them don't have any ratings at all. It is very hard to trust.

Are you suggesting that I should go for items only ones which have ratings ?

      • Are you suggesting that I should go for items only ones which have ratings ?

        Sellers, yes of course

I've only ever been ripped off once. And I knew it was a scam because it was way to good to be true. I think it was a 64GB memory card for 2 bucks or something that was completely obvious.

    But that was years ago.

  • Buy cheap crap, get get crap.

    • No, the SD card I ordered was 65$ and the guy has 98.7% ratings

      • +1

buying SD cards from 'randoms' on ebay, yeah no don't do that

        • $65 is cheap depending on type and size. Sounds like your venting to the wrong website try www.ebay.com.au for better results.
Also 98.7 means nothing if there is only a small sample of sales…

Buy cheap crap, get get crap

I definitely get get crap too.

      • hehe get get crap is the worst kind!

  • Ebay member since 2001.

100% success rate in over 900 transactions as a seller and buyer.

Again, like everything else, you need to apply common sense and spend some time researching.

  • I avoid ebay now for this very reason.

Only thing I buy is cheap cables from china.

Since ebay pro or whatever it is they (including paypal) don't care unless you sign up.

Once you get to Ebay Plus v2 Platinum Turbo with the free pricejack option it is all gravy from there.
