Returned a Damaged Raco Fry Pan. They Offered Money Back but I Want A New Pan

I bought a commercial Raco fry pan. I purchased it because as a retired Chef, I love their products. In my opinion they are the best. I have had it for about 2 years, and the non stick coating has started to peel.

I have always been employed in the larger restaurants, so we had the reps visit us every 3 weeks, and if there was ever a problem, with our knives or other tools, they were replaced straight away. I wanted to purchase a 300 mm, fry pan, so as in the past, I went straight to Raco, and after 2 years the fry pan failed. As I live in rural Australia now, and not in the city, and being retired not working at the casino, I bought online. I found exactly what I wanted, and it was discounted by 30%. I contacted the retailer and was told to supply photos, which I did.

After 3 days they have offered me my money back. Where do I stand?

I still want the fry pan. But without the discount, I need to pay another $38, plus postage.

Please can you help.

Not sure what you're expecting us to magic up. You've been offered a full refund after 2 years of use of a frying pan. That seems pretty fair. Ask if they're willing to replace it with another instead, if not, then get your money back.

As someone who isn't a retired Chef, take the refund and use the peeling pan until it's un-usable.

    • Plus look for a discounted one in the mean time.

Where can OP find a discounted peeling pan?

  • +1

TLDR - OP bought a pan. Defective after 2 years. Refund provided.

OP wants to know if he is entitled to the discounted price he originally paid.

    • No he was refunded a "discounted price" - the price he originally paid
but is complaining he has to pay more for a new pan and is upset

      • I think he was refunded the price he paid, ie price originally paid which was a discounted price.

We are talking about the same thing though, so… good tennis eh?

After 3 days they have offered me my money back. Where do I stand?. I still want the fry pan.

Why don't you just ask if they can send you a new replacement pan instead? It'll be a win-win since it'll cost them less than the refund!

  • didn't know they even refunded your used fry pan. We used tefal and chuck them out every 2 or 3 years, I found tefal also do dodgy quality, the $50 frypan I bought from the good guys holds its non-stick layer very well, after 2 years it's still pretty much like new but the cheaper one sold in Big W and Target almost lost its non-stick coating

What did they say when you asked for a new pan instead of a refund?

    • "For larger restaurants, we had the reps visit them every 3 weeks, and if there was ever a problem, with our knives or other tools, they were replaced straight away. But for someone living in rural Australia, and not in the city, and being retired not working at the casino, we can offer money back"1

      1. Not actually what they may have said

Wow, the back story of a fry pan….

  • Interesting

If it has already started peeling, why would you want the same one again?

    • It was appealing…

  • RACO pans are $25 on google?

    • I checked for you since you were asking a question. Around $28 for a 28cm model. I assume it is $1 per cm, so a 90cm model might be $90.

In my opinion they are the best.

    and yet

I have had it for about 2 years, and the non stick coating has started to peel.

Sounds like they might actually be not so great, and the only reason your kitchen used them was because Raco replaced them when they failed.

Get a carbon steel / black iron pan. Even a 350mm pan is well under $30 at any hospitality supply. Non-stick, nothing to peel, goes in the oven, can use metal in it.
