Fabric for outdoor cover

i need a fabric that's permanently resistant to sunlight, and water/dust proof. doesn't need to reflect solar heat, weight not an issue, can be transparent. it's for covering outdoor objects over long periods of time. what would be a good fabric for this? thanks.

googling shows a lot of premade fabric, i need a big piece to cut to my own dimensions. is PVC coated polyester permanently resistant to sunlight?

  • I use a tarp to cover my outdoor furniture. Unfortunately my local pesky birds makes a mess of it after a while.

    • i just bought some tarp from bunning yesterday, it says on the cover it's only a temp solution for exposure to the sun, UV will eventually damaged the tarp. so i need a permanently resistant to sunlight fabric.

      • +1

I think there are different grades of tarp and priced accordingly. It depends on how much you want to spend really. For me, because of the local birds, I just replace them every so often and got some of these when they are on special. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/404661

  • Isn't the point of having a cover to protect the items under the cover.
As such, the cover will almost certainly deteriorate over time, but hopefully has served its purpose and protected items under the cover during that lifespan.
When it has served its purpose, it just needs to be replaced. Not many items are 'permanently resistant'.

  • I have gone to Bunnings to look for this exact thing as I have outdoor items I want to cover as well.

I think I have settled on this.

I felt a lot of the materials on offer from the cheapest to the most expensive.

The cheapest was a rather thin layer of material which I have had before, I used it to collect rain water into a small tank. It started to fray after 2 seasons, and thats with it being packed away in Summer.

But the item I linked above the material looks tough and the folded item is heavy, lending weight to it being tough and resistant to weather.

It's expensive but the things I want to cover are hundreds of dollars in cost so it's worth it.
