Tesla Market Cap Surges past $100 Billion — 2nd most valuable car company in the world after Toyota

Wouldn't have thought, but there you go, Tesla is now the 2nd most valuable car company in the world.

Tesla's stock price surged more than 5 percent yesterday, boosting its market cap to more than $100 billion, making it more valuable than Volkswagen. The electric automaker is now second only to Toyota. CEO Elon Musk doesn't accept a salary from Tesla. He receives a very generous and ambitious stock compensation plan instead. For every $50 billion rise in Tesla's market cap, Musk receives 1.69 million shares, which is currently worth around $1 billion. If Tesla reaches its goal of a $650 billion market cap, Musk's stake in the company would be worth $195 billion, making him the richest man in the world.

shoulda listened to Elon's cult following and not the financial analyst fools

    • Don't feel bad about missing out. I was considering to buy Tesla 2 months ago when Cybertruck was announced and Tesla stock has dropped. Mostly because sentiment on Hackernews has been always good. Still chickened out. And I did chicken out when bitcoins were 90 cents because I thought they might reach $1 but then 10% gain was not worth the risk :-) Such is life.

      • SOrry, I meant to say I am one of those cult members.

    • I wanted to buy in at 2015 after at test drove the Model S. Analyst all where skiddish and even Elon said it was over valued, at $200…

  • making him the richest man in the world.

    still a self-aggrandizing, insufferable dickwad

Don't care, genius has a price, you don't have to like him. One can't be in the position he is in and maintain being a well-rounded down to Earth individual. Hell, the majority of normal people can't manage to do that.

The funny thing is. He actually is still well rounded and down to earth.

        • Damn, I would hate to see the kind of person you think is not…

Remember when he (repeatedly) called an expert cave rescue diver a pedophile, just because the diver didn't fawn over Elon's long hard pipe?

Remember when he (repeatedly) called an expert cave rescue diver a pedophile

            No I don't.

But I just googled it and the first few articles show that it was a social media back and forth.

Musk made a public comment about a submarine, the diver publicly criticized the comment, musk got upset and called him a pedo.

Guy said something, another guy gave him an opinion, the first guy then insulted him because he didn't like it.

I think they both signed up for it.

Really? … Whatch some of his motivational entrpeneur clips on YouTube. He's probably the most relatable billionaire to the average man. Look past channel 9s 5 second clips of him saying one word.

      • He's probably the most relatable billionaire

I am guessing he responded to one of your tweets?

Not yet! Think he is still married, just wait for his current bitch to make some noise. When Jeff Bezos announced his divorce, the boulevard press told their readers that MacKenzie Bezos was eligible for 99 billions. She appears to be such a nice chick and only stripped a small part of him. If she ever crosses my path I will propose to her. The worst she can do is say no. Perhaps I am not keen in living in cold and boring Washington State. Elon is sure just another nerd. The only thing I ever bought from Amazon is an echo dot and a spot. Eventually I will buy a Tesla model 3! Perfect penis extender…..

    This sounds like a pyramid.

Cool I guess. I'm glad electric vehicles haven't been beaten back by lobbying dollars and brain-dead conservatives. I myself will be waiting for the next battery break-through before I go electric.

For what? Don't be a sad sap and just say you can't afford it.
I get great mileage from Teslas and Hyundai electric.

  • I recall seeing Eisman on youtube saying he was shorting tesla. ouch…

You can just imagine all the auto execs in a room laughing at Elon when he launched his electric car company.

Now they're all trying to catch up.

  • TSLA stock price going to the Moon, Elon going to Mars…

1 Toyota, (ex sawing machines), 2 Tesla, a South African refugee, Volkswagen ha ha ha ha…

Imagine dumbos in VW had built diesel cars that were online 24/7 like the Tesla. Could have shot a "Security Patch" over and pulled arms up saying: Software issue, what software issue???
