  • Can you port from Aldi to this pack?

    • Yes

    • yes

Any idea if these can be used with the number sync thingo or Apple Watch?

    • +1

      Keen to know this too

    • Also would love to know this

    • +4

There seems to be some confusion about eSIM and Apple Watch.

To use a LTE Apple Watch you need Telstra "One Number" while this does use eSIM technology the service that syncronises the number onto both the watch is called "One Number" and is only available to Post Paid customers. https://www.telstra.com.au/support/category/mobiles-tablets/…

eSIM is just a technology that allows the replacement of a physical SIM with a virtual one. While it was originally used by Apple Watch it is now available on other handsets (iphone XS, 11 Pixel 3a) and all Telstra services (including prepaid) support it.

      • Oh bum.
Ain’t nobody got $ for postpaid
        Thanks for clarifying that

    • One Number is not available for prepaid unfortunately

  • +2

Asked online expiry date of activating SIM's and they can't give a timeframe as sent out by different department (presumed outsourced). They could only say generally they have a 6-12mth expiry date to activate.

  • Is 5G available?

  • I assume Cash Rewards $35 for Telstra BYO SIM applies for prepaid SIM too?

    • +1

Cashback is not available on prepaid plans.

  • Is this true?
"Unlimited international calls to Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, UK, USA and Vietnam. "

    OH… True. GOOD

  • Can this be used in a laptop or surface book with built in 4G slot?

    • I’d assume so but if you only want data why not get the $100 100gb plan they offer?

      • What $100 100GB plan? Telstra's prepaid data plans are either $150 for 40GB or this one (180GB for $219).

          • @stirlo: Sadly, that offer is limited to Windows notebooks with eSIM and not available on iPads (even though they offer eSIM)

            • @merajaan: Yep. But OP explicitly asked about Surface Book and Laptops with 4G slots not iPads. :D

Not useful anymore but for about a week after the release of the windows app a guy figured out how to reverse engineer it and you could load the sim onto a iPhone (and I assume iPad) however Telstra changed the T&Cs to forbid this and implemented more checks to stop people. I was one of those that got it working before they stopped it but sadly I lost it when my iPhone got destroyed and i needed to get a new one because you cannot transfer esim codes to a new phone. It needs to have a new one issued from Telstra.

    • if you want to use it in a laptop or surface book with a 4g slot then ask the consultant to activate it as prepaid mobile broadband go rather than prepaid max

  • Does this have a limit of how much data you can use every month?
Also if i was to finish all the data within 6 months am i able to change to another provider instead of wait out the 12 months?

    • +2

It's prepaid, not a fixed term post paid contract. You can burn all your data and change the next day if you want to LOL.

  • Would this work with Apple Watch - esim?

    • How much data do you use on an Apple Watch?.

    • +2

      see above - postpaid only

  • Anyone with experience with moving from Telstra Post-Paid to this?

    • Yep - I did it late last year. It was painful but they did it. I had a temporary number for a couple of days and I wasn't confident that I was going to be able to keep my original mobile number but it all came through in the end.

Still - the difficulty I had makes me reluctant to do it again (for my wife's phone).

If you go ahead with it my only advice would be to take the card into a shop and get one of the technicians to do it for you. Worst case scenario if they refuse you can refund the card as long as it hasn't been activated.

    • I have it done within 10'. The online support chat changed my number to prepaid, no need to change simcard.

      • So if I take this into a shop I can keep my number, what about when I need to port out again?

    • I’m in the process. I had a postpaid account with an eSIM and it is proving to be a PITA. So far I’ve had no working service for the last 15 or so hours. Don’t know what they did but I’m going to have to go into a store today to try and get the mess fixed. I wanted to keep my existing number and eSIM.

  • Will this support WiFi calling?

    • It should, my Telstra prepaid does.

    • Yes it does, but I had to get Telstra to 'activate' this and VoLTE on their end before it became active.

      • Thanks, how about boost? do they support Wifi calling also?

        • yes, i am with Boost atm

      • +2

I didn’t have to get Telstra to activate it on either of my Telstra sims.

  • What's the expiry on this?

  • Got this, now need deal on mate 20 pro

  • +2

I'm happy with my $29/35gb plan that im on right now with sim only plan :D

    • Do you have international calls included

  • +1

Do you guys need international calls? Nowadays is data calling.

  • Can someone from experience tell me roughly how much data $100 credit inclusion will provide when roaming? I.e. is this a good substitute for buying a local sim?

    • Well, Telstra has this International Pass for $10 a day in 70 countries (unlimited talk text + 200MB per day). So it really depends on your usage. So in theory you can roam for 10 days with $100 credits.

      • +1

I have just checked and the international day pass is not valid for prepaid services. So you would be looking at this for roaming rates which is much more expensive than the day pass

    • depending on the country you're going to the rate at which it uses the credit inclusion varies, however it is recommended that you buy a data pack add on if you're planning on using data as the $100 credit is intended more for intermittent in eligible countries overseas

  • successfully placed the order through Officeworks(via call).
My yearly Boost mobile is expiring in early March.

  • I am already on telstra plan, can I change it to this sim with the same nunmber.

  • Beaware, Telstra can remove any country associated with international call at any given time, like they did with Nepal and Phillipines last month.

  • hi, can someone tell me whether the extra $100 international call credit will apply to fiji? Bceause fiji isnt included in their other standard 30 countries

    • Yes looks like it, you'll pay 30c per min here

  • legend OP, got two at Officeworks price beat to ~$208…..the Sim's arent up the front, they squirrel them away so just ask if you cant find them.

  • How long do i have to activate these SIM..My Boost plan expires at the end of April 2020

    • I was told by Telstra support that it depends on the expiry date of the SIM and it's highly variable. Your best bet would be going into a store to check.

They also recommend porting within 30 days of purchase, not sure why.

  • Can someone please post the invoice from OW for price match? Personally I tried two times before, for other items But either it was rejected or offered online price+shipping charges.

    • Just call them

  • My current Optus 24 month contract finishes in August. If I buy this Telstra sim now, will it be expired by then? Any idea about the last date for activating the sim?

    • +1

expiry for current batch stands at late 2021

  • Does anyone know if JB still have the port in and get a gift card? My current JB port in is out of contract so tempted to port to someone cheap for a month then port back if I get a gift card.
Otherwise may just move to this or Boost.

    • You'll be signed up for 12 months then….

They generally always run the deal, just vary the amounts.

  • What's the cashback for this?

    • +1

Nothing no cash back on prepaid plans.

      • Thanks

      • +1

So if no cash back, it's better to get it from office works for a lesser price $208?

  • Good deal, but not better than the 240GB $300 boost one when it was for $240 + ow price beat

    • +3

It is better for those who don't need so much data, and want the full Telstra service (ie the account management, physical stores etc).

      • +3

Or those that travel and want eSIM and roaming credit.

  • My daughter is on the Kogan 158GB plan for $205. It expires next month.
For an extra $14 is this a better deal considering it's with Telstra?

    • +2

      Of course

  • Can I keep my current Telstra number using these?

  • can you get 5G access with this?

  • If i am with boost, will i need to port out to a another line (i.e optus) first?

  • Officeworks has changed their pricing to $219 now.

  • +2

For those asking whether you can use it to recharge your number - no it cannot be used directly for recharge. However, you also do not need to port out to another operator and port in again. All you have to do (and I have done this last year) is to call Telstra and ask them to migrate your number from one Telstra SIM to another Telstra SIM. It took 24 hours in my case, but in this way I was use a SIM pack I got on discount for the same number and able to maintain my Telstra Plus Points. All you would forego are the extra credits you would have.

  • +1

I did the migrate from new sim to old sim today using Telstra chat. Took 15 mins. Didn't need to activate the new sim. just supply the sim serial.

I also kept my roll over balance of 67g of data so my balance is now 217g.

    Very happy chappy!

    • oh I just discovered a bonus. When they applied the credit from the new sim to the old sim they didn't delete the credit on the new sim.

So now i have two sims for 1 year for the price of one. Its been a few days now so i thinking its there for good……

  • Am I correct…..with Telstra the unlimited international calls inclusion is just calls ie. international sms is separately charged from the $100 credit.

Whereas with Boost, the inclusion for selected countries includes calls and sms.

So if someone texts overseas more than 2 sms per day, Boost is a better deal?

    • I've used the international credit this month and it applies for everything, calls, text and data. Beware though that in just 1-2 days I lost $44. Cos it is quite expensive

      • Thanks for sharing ar7ist. Were those 2 days you were roaming from overseas? I wondered if texts from Oz to overseas (eligible countries) were charged to the $100 credit as well.

        • While travelling in xyz, calls are $5.00 per min to make or receive and SMS are $0.75 to send and free to receive. MMS are $0.75 to send plus data charges. Data is charged at $3.00 per MB. MessageBank is $5.00 per min and to access dial #101#. For better rates while travelling overseas consider purchasing a Roaming Plus Pack. For more details and to monitor your data usage visit m.telstra.com free from your Telstra Mobile.

That's the exact message I got. Didn't try overseas call. But I believe it'll be part of $100 extra credit

  • Has anyone use one of these SIMs in an iPad just for the data (not sure if Telstra put a restriction on non-phone devices)?

    • +1

you just need to activate it as prepaid mobile broadband go rather than prepaid max

  • Anyone buy one of these and don’t want it? I missed the deal.

  • anyone still waiting for theirs to ship?? telstra said theres a 15 day delay on my order -_-

    • Yes. Still waiting.

  • anyone got their order yet? im still waiting…called Contact centre…no one seems to know whats going on.

  • got mine 16days after purchase, online chat said they'd escalate it.
