Neither did I. Just used data from price hipster.
$1 per kg is still pretty good price I reckon as what you usually see in supermarkets is closer to $2 per kg.

Is that $5.95 normally for a piece perhaps?

    • Probably. You may want to check with price hipster as they use their own tools to retrieve data from Web sites.

I found watermelons that are sold by not Wooolworths/Coles are not as sweet.
      IMHO.

  • I could never find anything that is less than around 5 kg. There’s only two of us in the household. So we always buy the smaller cut ones.

  • $1.90 in Perth, like everything here has a WA tax.

Sorry, mate. WA salaries are a bit higher than in SA. So, it should balance higher prices I reckon.

  • I wont fall for that one! (goes away and checks his pension)

    Good ad for tourism. ;)

Perhaps the OP can edit the title?

edit - Price was $3.50 kg in Coles here during Christmas.

  • Normally 1-2 per kg so I isn't so bad sometimes you can get it from 70c

  • Watermelons seem to have a massive supply in the market at present. Many fruit shops are also selling it cheap though most of them don't offer cut pieces like Woolies and Coles do so you're forced to buy a full one (plus you can't see how red it is - a probably indicator of sweetness/ ripeness).

As a side, Cherries seem to have shortage this year. Prices aren't falling at all - almost midway (or end?) in the season and still selling at a crazy high price, unlike a few recent years when even Woolies and Coles sold them for less than $10/kG a few times in the season. Sad!

    • Watermelons are ripe when a yellow/white patch appears on the base where it was lying.
I go for a big yellow patch myself, for the most ripe.

      • Thanks for the tip, mate.

  • Hale storms came through late November in SA and destroyed a lot of melon crops. Drove the price up. $1 is a good price, probably Qld melons now.
