Looking for Bar Soap that doesn't melt away...

So the current bar soap I'm using has somehow changed in the past few months. It seems to melt away in the shower after 3-4 days…

I tried using liquid soap instead today but I tried this experiment with my hands. Firstly I use liquid soap to clean and then I wash and dry up; after a few mins I wash again with the bar soap and there seems to be some slimy texture on my hands from the liquid soap. For some reason I can't seem to wash away the liquid soap thoroughly enough. Or is this just something new regarding liquid soaps?

Has anyone figured out what is normal?

Also, what bar soap would you recommend? (Will keep the brand I am currently using out of the equation to prevent bias.)

  • Dettol Profresh Citrus or Sapoderm bars are perfect for first body lather before Dettol Profresh shower gel loofah scrub. I do it the other way around from you.

    • Sapoderm is great, I have replaced shower gel with it.
I just use one product and I feel like that is enough.

The woolies generic soap lasts fine, but I know the melting problem you mean, I have seen it with other brands.

  • just get one of the stainless steel soaps, they are meant to last for ages.
seem to be about $5 to $15.

Don't get any grocery store crap. I had a great experience with ScrumpySoapCo, long lasting unique hand-made soap from Perth with natural aromas/ingredients. The last year or so I've been using Lush soap because I know someone with an employee discount, and some of them are quite soft and melt away, plus they're honestly just not as good. I think I'll be switching back.

    Edit: Just ordered some lol.

  • Not quite as cheap or useful as a everyday soap but the DH uses this soap after fishing or I don't allow him to touch me.

    • lol.
My Partner loves fishing as well. I know that line all to well.

  • Solvol
Been doing its thing since 1915

  • If the bar of soap is soft before you've started using it, you need to let it dry out. My Nana used to leave them to dry for at least a week before we were allowed to use them. Also remember to use a soap dish like this one so that the soap doesn't sit in water and dissolves away.

  • Hi. I think liquid soap has certain conditioners in it that cause that slimy feeling you are talking about, you could try some all natural soap or liquid soap and see if that is better.

Another option if you don't like cleaning out a soap bar holder all the time is to make a little paddle pop stick holder cross the wood over on one side and then put straight lines across the other side. That way the soap gets to dry out, you could make a metal version it wouldn't cost much. :)

  • I found the imperial lather brand to last the longest

    • Yeah they use things to make the soap last longer, best thing to make soap last longer. Buy soap that contains beeswax it is great for extending soaps life and a natural way.
