Cheap flights to India in December

Hello Everyone,want to go to India (chennai) on 23rd December and return on 7th January 2012. The ticket will be MEL - CHENNAI - MEL. That is the only time I can get off from work. I had a thorough look online and the fares are around $2100.00 for a return ticket. Anyone aware of any cheaper deals?

I also had a look at different budget airline options but they all seem to be only about $200 cheaper after you pay for all the luggage and not meals which is not worth for me. Any input and suggestions please?

    Here's a pretty good site to compare airfares, but flights are more expensive around late december than usual.

    Try calling up an Indian travel agent such as Best & Less Travel (www.bestandlesstravel.com.au) or Value World Travel (valueworldtravel.com.au). They may be able to offer special deals that are not available online.

    Try JetKing Travels located in the city, again an Indian travel agent, but they are the biggest Singapore airline dealer, at least for flights to India, so they might have something for you.

    I booked for December (mumbai) via the following:

    Going up - $888 on travel.com.au on emirates. Book over the phone to save the $15 booking feee
    Coming back - $670 on malaysian airlines. Check out travelocity india. return flights are not too bad.
