Awesome mower. Super quality and super sturdy. 5 year warranty. Great mower for thick kikuyu etc.
Only tiny issue is the front overhang is about an inch longer than it needs to be.
As I say to my mates who have gone the Makita ryobi at al. The poor man pays twice…..
had one gifted to me, originally bought form Masters
review is same as what others have written
PROS - light but sturdy and well built. cleaner to use and no fuel smell.
being electric it starts first go everytime
CONS - struggles to cut thick clumps of grass. theres a dip where the electrical concrete pit is, and just going down into that dip seems to stall it. probably only good for cutting fake grass.
its loud. not as loud as a petrol, but very close.
battery is only good for 2 passes of nature strip and then it needs to recharge.
the catcher is small.
the handle has to be fully extended to use.
theres a push button that has to be pushed in everytime you want to start.
in the end, only if your grass is flat and you can get onto it regularly, then its ok.
would i buy it? no. i'd go petrol powered just for the cutting power.
Oils ain’t oils. Seems to be a variety of experiences with these mowers, positive and negative. To clarify, for those with experience in Ego mowers, what model have you used, and what battery capacity?
Ego produces both brushed and brushless mowers, with a reasonable performance difference possible between the two types. I notice that this one is brushed (seems to me anyway…they call it a ‘magnetic motor’…hey, the brushless ones have magnets too, but Ego seems to spec them as ‘brushless’). Brushless will give greater efficiency over brushed (think maybe 10-15%….so up to that much more power and/or less battery use).
On top of the motor differences, the battery can make a huge difference. When you move through heavy grass, and the revs drop a little, any electric motor will suck more current (subject to any controller limitations). If the battery is unable to supply this current, then power will be lower. Cell quality being equal, a higher capacity battery can pump out more current than a lower one. Thus putting a 2.5ah battery in these things will probably not yield great results. 4ah should do much better…5 better still, and 7.5ah should give these motors all the juice they ever need. Tired and abused batteries will also affect the experience.
Yeah, I reckon you might have it…
The people with good experiences likely have the 7.5Ah battery (which is almost definitely 3x Parallel strings of Cells, 2 Strings for the 4 and 5Ah and just the one string for the 2.5Ah)
The 7.5Ah can therefore maintain the current to power on through when the 4/5 and (especially) 2.5Ah users struggle.
Pass from me this time. Hopefully my corded Bosch survives to the point that a 7.5Ah deal come around again.
any thought on this compare to the 82v Victa? https://www.bunnings.com.au/victa-82v-power-cut-lawn-mower-k…
If I recall correctly, the Victa has a lower blade speed.
Also being a 2Ah battery likely means there's just the single string of Cells in Series, so Power output will be Current limited by the Cells and end up being similar to (or worse than) a 4/5Ah powered 56V.
Thanks to OP for pointing this out.
Got the Brushcutter set for $350, excellent value as it comes with fast charger and 5ah.
Didn't need to mower got my mower and trimmmer from the masters deal way back. Been working a treat.
I have E-Zoysia grass & Sapphire buffalo.
For those having an issue with zoysia try the high-lift 50cm blade. I mowed with it the other day on my 49cm push , and the cut was so much cleaner. I'm actually thinking of putting twin-blade to see what happens.
Has anyone tried hacking the battery yet? They are so expensive, unless their in a bundle or on special.
I was planning on doing that to mine when they eventually expire (if you mean pack them yourself?). I try to look after mine - keep them in a cool spot and leave them at half to 3/4 charge (the onboard electronics should regulate and discharge a fully charged unit after a month anyway).
I think there's a lot of cells in these though right? Big job….but as you say, they're expensive to replace.
Alternative would be to place some lipo packs inside…onboard electronics may not like it and may need to be bypassed - not sure. Much difference between the lithium-ion cells and lipos? Slightly different voltage I thought.
Thanks, OP. Got convinced and invested in a mower. Picked it up from Castle Hill. Used to pay my bogan friend 50 bucks to do this for 40-50 sq.m. patch. BTW, He used the same mower :) Will probably wait for a deal on trimmer. The guy at Castle Hill wouldn't budge from $249 for the 33cm Trimmer skin only.
Haven't thought of that lol.
Should be 18650s inside right?
But how do I know which cells are the dead ones?
