I live in the suburb that is in the plan to build up a proposed new station.
Just wondering for project this big, is it possible that the project get cancelled ?
It will really impact on my decision whether to sell the property in the next 10 years…

Even if it's confirmed in the next election, it can still be cancelled in the next next one?
Or can we safely say that once it's started, it won't be cancelled.
If contracts are signed for construction, it will be difficult (but not impossible) to cancel.
If construction starts, unlikely to be cancelled.
If Labor lose the next election, check the policy of the new government.

It's easy to rip up a contract. Labor did so with the East-West Link contracts which were signed just prior to the 2014 election. The only difficulty is criticism the government would face from the opposition regarding wasted taxpayer money.
This is just the latest version of the "loop".
My previous neighbour first heard that the loop is going to pass near our place… some 50 years ago.
At the level of efficiency the state government spends their money, the $50billion estimate isn't even going to come close. Even if they start, it will be a dragged out extremely long to get new funding everytime they exhaust the coffers.
PS. Before the completion of the project, self driving vehicles, personal mini scooters and potentially unfathomable possible transportation paradigm changes could have happened. We could be building a loop that no one uses.
I have a feeling that I may die in the next 30 years…To witness the completion of this project will be on my bucket list.

You should speak to people who have lived in either Tullamarine or Rowville for a few decades. They'll give you a rundown on how these projects get announced, manipulated and cancelled. They've probably witnessed it a few times.

We've been promised the Airport Link for nearly a 100 years. I first moved into Rowville in the early 90s and they were saying a rail link from somewhere around Caulfield —> Chadstone —> Monash University —> Rowville was in the plans and that they had even bought the land for it. Nearly 30 years on, nothing….
Don't believe any plans or even construction start till its actually completed. As mentioned above, East West Link contract was torn up by Labour when they came into power - so contract means nothing either.
I'd suggest it's unlikely to happen regardless of which government is in power. It's enormously expensive and after selling the port, spending billions on Level Crossing Removals, North East link, Melbourne Metro 1, West Gate Tunnel and an eventual East West Link there will be little appetite for more expensive mega projects funded by ever increasing debt.
Arguably the Melbourne Metro 2 (Clifton Hill to Newport via Fishermans bend) is needed more and with the federal government wanting Geelong fast rail and stumping up $2 billion I suggest a change of government might result in it being prioritised. Unless you're in the initial Box Hill to Cheltenham section I'd say there's close to 0 chance you see something happen within the next 20 years and expect it to be radically modified/downsized when it does happen. After all we've only just completed most of the 1969 freeway plan 50 years later.
This! They also have the Airport Link which supposedly will start once Metro 1 is complete. It will never happen, and if it does, it will be a cut down/de-scoped version due to cost.

Is this the one that Andrews made a big song and dance about before the last election, only to then come out and say it wouldn't be finished until 2050? And that the money they were committing in the budget was only for a scoping study into the feasibility of the project?
If that's correct, then it absolutely won't get built if there's a change of government - the Coalition will redirect the money to its own pet projects. In fact, even if Labor stays in power for an extended period it's unlikely the project will be completed on time, on budget, or even in its current form. Given that shorter term infrastructure projects struggle to get built with any degree of competence, a three decade-long project like this has no chance of being done properly.

Just reviving the old thread to ask if people got the letters from the council now about their properties being acquired or any extra overlays?
The next Victorian election will be held on 26 November 2022.
Construction of the rail project is due to commence in 2022.
You should have plenty of clarity in 2022.
