Internet Connection on Galaxy Watch via Bluetooth Connection from an iPhone

Okay people, writing this in a big hope to get a solution. Here is my issue:

So I bought Samsung Galaxy Watch to use with an iPhone. Like any smartwatch I was hoping that it will connect with my phone and will provide updates and I can check weather and other stuff which basically uses internet via phone.

But - here is the problem - watch connects to the phone fine, watch syncs contacts fine, displays notifications from the phone fine, but when I want the weather app to refresh the weather it asks for wifi connection as there is no internet available.

This has been annoying lately. I have reset the watch twice. Delete the Galaxy Watch app and reinstalled.

There are 2 Bluetooth connections showing for watch. 09CC and 09CC LE. Both are connected.

Not sure what else I can do to make it work; if there is any option in the watch which needs activation or settings in the Galaxy Watch app?

Your time is much appreciated.

Cheers

Is your iPhone's personal hotspot on?
The only way to transfer a data connection (3G, 4G) from an iPhone is by using the personal hotspot

OP, you could also tap the "I" next to the device in Bluetooth to see if it has any additional options. Some devices I use via Bluetooth have various options such as allowing contact access and notification access.

Edit: Not sure why I am getting neg'd, if you have another theory on why it isn't working & another way to transfer your iPhone's data connection, I would love to hear it considering the title is Internet Connection on Galaxy Watch via Bluetooth Connection from an iPhone

    • The Bluetooth suggestion might be worth checking, but running a phone hotspot to try and connect the watch up just isn't a practical suggestion.

For what it's worth OP, the Weather app on my watch has been tempremental for me too, using a Note 9 - it may be a bug with the watch at the moment.

      • I am actually surprise to read that, considering you're using a Samsung phone.

If it helps, what I have just figured out that if I leave the Galaxy Watch app running on my phone, my watch gets the internet data it needs. Weird! But I assume Samsung and Apple may have a conflict of interest in the same technology hence restrictions in Bluetooth connection.

Also, recently, there was an update available for Weather app.

Thanks for your time anyway :)

        Cheers

        • I have the same as you, using an iPhone 6 with a Bluetooth galaxy watch.

If I don't have the app running in the background I don't get weather updates and I have lately been getting the apple location popup "this app is using your location in the background do you want to change it" and I leave it to always allow.

Downside is it tanks your battery as the location service is running all the time as it uses your phones location phone not the watch's.

If you go into the app. Go to Apps/Individual App Settings/Weather/Settings

It says Current Location On/Off and in small text "Send your phone's location info to the content provider so that you can be provided with local weather info".

          Hopefully this sheds some light!

          • @jishkebab: Hi mate. Thanks a lot :) all the settings you have mentioned are already active.

Temporary solution I have found is that keeping running the Galaxy Watch app on iPhone and it works like it should. My understanding is that the app is creating some sort of being between the phone and the watch for data transfer/ update.

            Cheers

I was thinking about turning on hotspot and difine this as a wifi connection in the watch so that watch has internet connection everytime but I think it will drain the battery very quickly. Using an iPhone 7 Plus but still.

I mentioned there are 2 Bluetooth connections linked to the watch. The "i" section in the first connection doesn't have much info. The section connection has an option ticked with "share system info" - I assume this is linked to the Galaxy Watch app.

What I have just figured out that if I leave the Galaxy Watch app running on my phone, my watch gets the internet data it needs. Weird! But I assume Samsung and Apple may have a conflict of interest in the same technology hence restrictions in Bluetooth connection.

Thanks for your time anyway :)

  • Gear sport never have a problem using my old s8 and now my s10 always updates wherever I am .
I would think it has something to do with the iPhone Apple doesn’t play well with others .

You’re absolutely right. My assumption is the same. Arrogance from the the technology giants and customer has to suffer lol :)
