    The healthy way to fry!

    *Disclaimer: doesn't actually fry food

    • yeah, it's just a small fan-forced oven, as we all know. it's just a marketing trick, nothing fancy or high tech.

i've got Philips & 2 other cheaper brands. it's SLIGHTLY better made, but paid almost 5x premium for it is unjustified. ONLY get phil when it's cheap. don't make the same mistake as i did

      • The benefits of an air fryer I think are that it is easier to clean than an oven and you can take the deep fryer tray out and shake up the contents, compared to a shallow baking tray. It's not a serious cooking device, but if you're the kind of person who does frozen chips and roasted vegetables it saves a bit of time.

  • Old model

    • And? the latest isn't necessarily the greatest.

  • +1

My mum been using this model for over 5 years now and it still kicking strong! Definitely worth it for $99 despite being superseded with a newer model.

  • Fry in cold-pressed olive oil for healthy frying

    • does this airfryer changes the fact that any high heat cooking produces carcinogen like acrylamide ?

and olive oil goes toxic at 200deg ?

      • +1

So a good argument to roast in a fan-forced oven at 180degC?

Keep in mind that toxic ALEs from Olive oil are far less than from other vegetable oils.
But if you are concerned about high heat, then use clarified butter (235degC) or refined olive oils (240degC), or better still refined avocado oil (270degC).

    • At high temperatures (>180°C) even health pressed olive oil lose their properties.

To confirm…this only has a small cooking capacity of about 800g?

    • +1

Is that a statement or a question?

      • +1

        yes

Isn't the Kmart one just as good and cheaper?

I think I have the next size up, the HD9240 and already
    find that a little small.

    PHILIPS - HD9650/93 - AIRFRYER XXL PREMIUM
If your going to buy an air fryer and use regularly
    Don’t skimp on quality

    • This is OzBargain here. Any deal on those larger size air dryer? Amazon Australia has those at around $400.

      • I got mine from jb as they priced matched cost $330

      • The Phillips XXL analogue version was 239 on Amazon a few weeks back :)

  • Apparently the Kmart Anko brand air fryers are all the rage. Thoughts?

    • +1

They rank the worst of all in Choice testing. People still seem to like them though

      • What are the best ones though? $300+ models?

    • I'd get the Kmart one over this any day, it's cheaper, bigger, better digital controls and works great.

  • +1

Strangely enough I have two Phillips airfryers… The standard size one and more recently the XXL one. The standard one is the "single guy" fryer - can fit a piece of chicken maryland (drumstick plus thigh) and throw some chips on top… That's it. Easy meal 😃 If I'm just doing chips the standard size is fine, and I managed to squeeze in nearly a kilo of marinated chicken wings once 😃

    • So the advantages are it's cheaper and quicker than using an oven?
