I'm looking for the cheapest one available. I would prefer to pick one up in store, but will look online if it is a huge price difference.
I basically just want to use it on an old TV to watch .avi files from a USB.
Thanks,
Padfoot

That looks pretty cool, but I was thinking of something really basic for around 30-50 bucks.
I thought that I'd seen something like it before but now I'm not so sure :/
To be honest anything less than the wdtv is just going to annoy you in the long run, particularly concerning file format support.
There may some other brand media players around the $100 mark (Astone etc) that are on par with the WDTV but you won't get one for too much less than $100.
IMO this is primarily because chipsets capable of decoding 1080p are not that cheap (yet)
Hmm, fair enough.
What about something like this…

OR, is there a DVD player that has the ability to play from USB files, (again, not too expensive)
Sorry guys, for me WDTV ! is not worth for what u pay !
Try this for 45$ from msy - I think ,so far it's the cheapest and decent one!

Oh, you could look at portable dvd players with usb/sd card inputs. Most of them have av-outputs so you can view them on your tv. And they are around 60 bucks normally. =) Or, you can check out your local Golo, BigW, Target, most would even have sub-50 dvd players with usb input.
I bought a cheap DVD player, $30 from Big W for the same reason, to play movies from my USB. Ended up taking it back as they still wouldn't play. I think you really need to go for a media player?
Yeah, I've tried that also, but some DVD players will only play music or show photos from a USB.
Do you know of a player that does video?
No, sorry, not unless you go for a more expensive DVD player. I am looking for a media player ATM. I think the one mentioned above seems like a good buy, WD TV live as it can play from an external hard HD and that is what I am needing.
Yes, my highlander dvd player does. I bought one from the previous 49 dollar PDP from golo, it plays AVI, divx, mkv off the usb. =) And it loads a 1gb file in under 10 seconds, and also has last memory function too.
What about the Logitech Revue from Amazon?
What about this one? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22081 32 bucks and free shipping. Good reviews too :)
Howdy there
