2020 TV Models - Question around 2019 Stock and Prices

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has good understanding of the yearly TV cycles - Ive seen some posts go up for 2020 models from all the big providers and was wondering how retailers deal with stock of 2019 models.

Do the prices of the previous year models tend to drop dramatically? Does older stock tend to stick around much longer after the 2020 models drop?

Cheers in advance

Your thoughts are all correct. End of Feb/March is when all of the old stock is cleared with decent prices. Starting the end of March/beginning of April, all of the new models are released at RRP and then drop to normal-ish prices by the end of financial year.

Also make sure you read reviews on the new gen, its not always better than the old one!

    • So is the cleared stock at Feb/March MY2020?

      • I reckon they completely stop manufacturing the old ones and start making the new ones. As long as it's the same model, I don't see what difference it makes anyway, since your warranty start when you pick it up and electronics are not affected in anyway in storage.

Different for each brand, the stores will get them at different times of the year.

Given most TVs are never resold, the MY19/20 issue isnt that great vs the issue for motor vehicles.

Discounts would be very small, many wouldn't know or care when their TV was made.

Also bear in mind that the Olympics are on this year and there are usually TV sales on to promote watching on the latest and greatest tech.

  • Is the Sony X95G 65” still worth getting for $2200 at Costco? I’m aware that it was under 2k over Christmas period but unfortunately missed that being overseas.

  • Good question. I haven't seen any TV deals since Christmas and I am waiting for a C9 65". Some stores don't even have stock :/

    • yep - am in the same boat as well…

  • The stores are selling for 2495 now. Not aware of any deals anytime soon.
