https://m.imgur.com/a/HWguVdB

Hi Guys,
Got this watch in boxing day sale on 26Dec 2018 from jbhifi. What bare my options to fix it and how much it costs (I am in Sydney)?

Thanks in advance.

  • How much did Apple say?

If you go for a third party then I would only consider for a substantially reduced price there is a risk they will screw it up.

Usually they don't, been to like 4 screen repairers over the multiple devices I've had in 15 years and had no issues. I'd rather pay the $50 and take the very minuscule chance than pay the outrageous prices Apple demands.

        • Yeah, but have a look through the Ozbargain site. There are a lot of people who now have devices that no longer work and Apple won’t touch them because a 3rd party did.

          • @try2bhelpful: Fair but vocal minority and all that, those happy with their service obviously aren't going to rave about it on OzB but those with bricks will.

Lots of people including myself and my friends and family have had no issues with 3rd party repairers and I'm absolutely not saying issues don't arise but rather that it's that common as people make it out to be.

            • @Ajax45: Perhaps, but it would need to be a substantial difference, and the acceptance that things can go wrong. Just making sure people understand the risks. However, given the numbers Apple is quoting for screen repairs I do think they are having a lend. You are almost back to the price of a new one.

buy apple care online and claim through.

    • You have to prove the watch is unbroken, originally, to buy AppleCare. Buying it then putting in a claim will raise suspicions.

nope, thats not the case, they just run a diagnostic tool if you buy online and that tool cant confirm physical damage, i am certain it works.

        • How you know?

          • @WreckTangle: So have you done this? Did you get AppleCare after the fact and successfully claim for a broken screen? There is still a servicing fee.

$129 for AppleCare & $99 for service fee.

This is cheaper but there is a risk if they call your bluff.

@WreckTangle: Did that on my iPad. My son broke the screen 2 days after getting it for Xmas. Bought AppleCare online, prompted me to download and run the diagnostic tool. Gave an all clear so allowed me to by AppleCare. Few days later I claimed it and got the screen repaired.

The remote diagnostic can not detect a broken screen usually, but it does detect signs of a broken screen and can "require a physical inspection"

Saying that OP cant buy Apple Care,
He has had the Watch since Dec 2018, so over 12m now

Was the device broken when you bought the AppleCare?

The T&C say 60 days and a in store inspection or remote diagnostic.

@try2bhelpful: yeah screen broken! their repair bill is not justifiable so bought after 1 month i guess., i suggest to try as it doesn’t hurt 😉 takes only couple of clicks to see if its working! i bought it like a year ago.

@Okayy: My man tends to wear his watch facing inwards to try to protect it. I’ve knocked mine a couple of times and, fingers crossed, OK so far. In winter I will make sure it is beneath my sleeve.

    Any third party repair shop?

  • It’s like they want you to buy a new one instead… oh wait.

  • There is a report on screens cracking round the edges… if your watch demonstrates this sort of damage, then it would be repaired free.
However, if you have damaged the screen, then I would toss the watch… it's only an s3.
