Long time ozbargain user. I have recently missed many bargains, by the time I don't across then they're expired.
Is there a function or setting I can adjust, which will allow me to get email or notifications when certain stores have discounts as posted by an ozbargain user?

If you are after deals from Book Depository, click the store page here and then click "subscribe"
You can also subscribe to users too. Click their username to be brought to their profile, and hit the subscribe button.
In your user settings, if you want to receive email notifications, you'll also need to click the tickbox for Email. Web notifications only happen when you're online on Ozb. — you won't receive emails for anything (such as search alerts, subscription alerts) until you've enabled that tickbox.

Basically you search on OzBargain for whatever it is you're interested in. When the results come up, on the right hand side there's a link named "Create Alert".
It'll then email you whenever a deal is posted that contains the particular search term you've created the alert for.
