    50% off what?

    • Half the sleaze!

      • +3

We save 100% of the sleaze. We work for you, not the dealers and are completely transparent about it

    • +1

Just modified the original post to include our flat rate service fees. Thanks

Cars Above $68,000 - Flat Service Fee $850 $425 OzB January only
Cars Below $68,000 - Flat Service Fee $650 $325 OzB January only

Cars Above $68,000 - Flat Service Fee $850 $425 OzB January only
Cars Below $68,000 - Flat Service Fee $650 $325 OzB January only

    Cars Exactly $68,000 - $0 OzB January only :-)

    • +6

Hahaha - The ultimate OzB discount!

Just for clarity on why we have an arbitrary number, this is where the luxury car tax kicks in, and in general there is more work involved on obtaining the righr pricing on cars above this limit.

We are discretionary about this however, for cars that hover slightly above $68,000 we generally charge $650

  • +2

How about cars that arent too retail based like Tesla's any capacity there?

Also looking into Cars in NZ, is this within scope?

    • +1

I'm interested in the answer to the Tesla question. What kind of movement is possible on the Model 3?

    • +2

Unfortunately not on retail-to-consumer cars like Tesla. We have had discussions with them about fleet pricing for corporate, but at the moment they are remaining with their current sales model.

We also dont currently cover NZ, but that may change in future.

      • Same with Genesis I suppose?

        • Haven't actually had an enquiry on one as yet so we haven't attempted it, but I expect pricing will be fixed

  • What can you do on a New Subaru Forester 2.5i-L? Not too fussed on colour but either the green or white is ideal. Pick up in Sydney and finances are sorted.

    Cheers

    • would like to know this as well

    • +2
    • We negotiate each car individually and stock levels, factory support, model year changes, all impact the price of a car.
We dont like putting fanciful figures out there and prefer to do the work on your car to get accurate pricing, however I would estimate mid $30k depending on the extent of accessories you might be after also.

Get in touch with us if you would like to learn more about how we can help.

  • +2

Have used ALTBrokers before and they achieved a decent saving - definitely made the back on the brokerage fee

    • Thanks DarkRyoushii, hope you're enjoying your car!

  • Brand new cars only? What about demo?

    • +1

We do both brand new and demo, not used unless its a rare or exotic car (thats what we specialized in for many years)

Demo's are interesting and in my opinion are not great value, as we often can procure a new car for very similar money to a demo, and our customers benefit from the the full 12 months of rego, warranty + piece of mind as to its care in its early days (which is the most critical time for any car).

If you are also buying a car that has corporate eligibility, e.g you work for ANZ bank and are buying a BMW, most of those corporate programs are not available on demo's, so there's that too…

      • I own a small business, can you organise finance too?

        • Yes we can, we have several finance partners with access to dozens of lenders and they will select the best lenders for your specific situation in order to provide a competitive rate.

Occasionally dealer finance can be very competitive so we make you aware of any current offers in market on the car you are considering also.

  • +3

Any guarantees if the individual Ozbargainer can substantially beat the negotiated broker sale price?

    • +1

Definitely, if the ozbargainer can beat our sale price, our service fees are free (we fully refund them). They also get the ALTBrokers OzB negotiation award!

It very rarely happens in the years we have been doing this, but sometimes a dealer may just want to move a car at all costs.

  • There are free car brokers out there, why pay for it? They get kickbacks from the dealer which you buy from so you should not need to pay.

    • +4

In our experience, you are paying for it anyway… Those kickbacks inflate the pricing presented to you and are generally far higher than our fee.

We prefer a transparent approach in an industry where there is very little trust.

    • What are they?

    • I used georgie, strange name but advantage was no up front fee or any fee. They take it out of the amount you pay for the car.

They did much better than Iā€™d managed on my vw and no commitment unless you are happy with price they get you, otherwise you can walk away. Was very happy with result.

      https://georgie.com.au/

    • +1

The broker fee "spotters fee" will just get added onto the price you pay. Usually the ones who aren't transparent about it charge the most

      • This is true in our experience MattP

  • +1

Seems very expensive service charge, even with your 50% off. Quick examples - National Car Brokers Vehicles under $30,000 ā€“ Our success fee is only $187 inc GST. All vehicles over $30,000 ā€“ Our success fee is only $242 inc GST. They also quote savings up to 25%. Never used brokers before as I am a very good negotiating and working dealers against each other to get a good deal.

    • Maybe take up car brokering then?

      • I have done this for family and friends and l a challenge. Thanks for your helpful advice.

        • Why not do it commercially?

          • @stockastics: Already have a job, but again, thanks for your advice.

    • Hi Kizashi, see comment above on our response to this.
Happy to hear you've been successful at negotiating yourself, keep it up!
We deal a lot with executives and professionals that dont have the time and just want the best pricing with minimum hassle.

  • +1

Can you only get a discount if the car is "on the floor"?

    • The car doesn't need to be on the floor to obtain a discount, but a discount on a car that is newly released or in limited quantities is more difficult, as supply and demand kicks in. Eg RAV4 Hybrid

  • Hi ALTBrokers,

I'm currently in the market for a Subaru WRX.
Any chance you have some good deals?

Pay $325 and you'll find out.

    • We can definately help Jibber, we buy around 10 subarus a month as between Outback, XV, Forrester, they are very popular cars.
Get in touch with us to discuss how we might be able to help you.

  • Hi ALTBrokers,

Looking to get a Golf GTI and wondering how the process works? Do you provide the best price you can get (without obviously telling us the finer details) then we pay the fee for it to be arranged, or do we pay the fee and then you provide the best price?

    Cheers

    • Hi Woodinski,
Send us a Message and we can get in touch with you to discuss further, but at a high level our process is:

      1. Discuss your requirements, including the car itself, options, timeframe, finance/trade in requirements etc. We do this to ensure aligned expectations on both sides before we begin the process.
      2. Collect a small deposit which we use to ensure we have commitment to purchase if we obtain a suitable price. This shows commitment to the dealers quoting, which in turn gets us (and you) competitive pricing
      3. Begin sourcing your car. this normally takes 1-2 business days
      4. Our full fee is only payable once we have a satisfactory contract of sale for you that you wish to proceed with.
  • +1

The last time I used a car broker (thru union shopper) I only thing I can see they did was to fax off price requests to a number of dealers.
Then they charged my credit card for the deposit without further discussion.
This was a free service but I doubt it was anything better then I could have done myself.

Luxury cars can have up to 30% profit so you have negotiate aggressively.

Other cars aim for RRP (drive-away price minus dealer charge / reg / SD).

In demand cars - minimal discount.

Manufacturer promotion - again minimal discount.

    • Pretty well said Marky66.

Many brokers will just email dealers for quotes and then present the best quote back to the client. We don't work this way…we negotiate each car individually.

      Agree with your other comments

  • Subscribe to choice magazine they give you free car brokerage

  • Any chance you guys help with Motorcycles?

    • Unfortunately not at this time Sii

  • I wonder what Spackbace has to say about this :)

  • Just out of interest when you negotiate prices on a new car how much can you generally get the dealers to lower the price ? Like say on a commonly bought car like a Hyundai Tuscon active x ?

    • We negotiate each car individually and depending on the state you are in, options or accessories etc, factory incentives, what we can obtain a car for moves from month to month. We also d dont negotiate with the typical sales people in a dealership that you would encounter.
There are significant savings to still be had on something like a Hyundai Tuscon Active X

  • Can you explain how this service is different to Private Fleet, which only charges ~$200 (no upfront deposit although they do pocket a dealer referral fee) once I agree to buy the car?

    • We are not a high volume broker and we dont have the intention to move thousands of cars per year, as we also do property and finance - we look for long term relationships with our clients and look to assist them take the hassle, time and stress away from some of the largest purchases in life (house, cars, mortgage, lease).

On the car front, we are similar but have a different (more transparent) engagement model and are more highly personalized than most others out there. We also also car enthusiasts and understand the market thoroughly, which hasn't been the experience from many customers prior to working with us.

  • What are your thoughts on negotiating for Audi's in Perth? Seeing as we only have one dealer in Perth

I'm interested in a 2 door S5 coupe, any rough idea if you can negotiate a good price even for the aforementioned reason? if so what kinda price do you expect?

    Thanks

    • We deal with Perth clients regularly, the biggest challenge is lack of competition.

What generally works well, given our national network, is to source your car from interstate and have it transported to you directly in perth. Yes it adds some minor cost, but its insignificant compared to the amount you will save vs buying in perth. The car is also fully insured by the dealer and in closed transport so there is no risk to the buyer.

This is the way supercars and exotic cars are sold and transported which we also have experience in.

Feel free to contact us and we can discuss how we can help you on your Audi S5 Coupe further

  • Hi ALTBrokers

I sent you a message via your contact us form on your website with username and coupon detail.

I take it someone will pick this up and get back to me?

    Cheers

    • Hi Jollster
Thanks for your enquiry. Our team work Monday to Saturday and will contact you tomorrow morning.

If you shoot me a quick PM with your name, ill get back to you personally.

      • Thanks. PM sent.

        Cheers

  • Hi ALTBrokers,

    To confirm the process:

    • We test drive at our local dealers, and bargain a price.
    • Then, we go to you and pay your brokerage fee.
    • You come back to us with a price.
    • We then either a) accept your price or b) get a refund of your brokerage fee if we have found a cheaper price?

    Questions:

    • Do you barter prices from all states to get the lowest price(+delivery), and if so, are you transparent with this information?
    • Is there a set time (like 24hours) to accept your deal?
    • Can we use your brokerage fee to find a price, and go to a local dealer to price match?
    • "Our volume means average savings of 18% off RRP" - Are you able to give an ~% off a specific brand/model upon request before signing up, and if so, do you have a guarantee you'd get close to that saving?
    • A couple of corrections
We test drive at our local dealers, and bargain a price.

Yes, or you can engage us and we can provide some advice upfront before you go out and test drive. Whatever suits our customer best
as a general peice of advice, even if buying yourself, separate the test drive/research to the buying process

Then, we go to you and pay your brokerage fee.

You engage us and we take a small deposit of the brokerage fee to confirm there is commitment to buy, we also use this opportunity to discuss colours, options, finance, trade in, and your budget. This takes place over a phone call - we dont charge anything until we've had a discussion with you.

You come back to us with a price.

yes, we generally need 1-2 days to source pricing and negotiate

We then either a) accept your price or b) get a refund of your brokerage fee?

If we cant find you a car you wish to proceed with, yes, we refund the initial deposit taken. 92% of customers who engage us, buy from us.
If our pricing however assists you to buy elsewhere, our deposit is not refunded.
      * Our clients are generally happy with this, as our advice and price quotes alone saves them thousands
      * If you proceed to us, we connect you with the dealer and you pay your deposit to the dealer directly (we never hold any funds other than our fee). We then invoice the remainder of our fee once you have your contract of sale.

Do you barter prices from all states to get the lowest price(+delivery), and if so, are transparent with this information?
      * We generally will stick to the same state to support local dealers however if you're in a state which will not result in a good outcome, we will obtain some interstate quotes also. This can also be the case with finding the right spec car if you have specific requirements (often European cars)
      * we are transparent with all information provided

      • Thanks for the info, some more questions:

        • Is there a set time (like 24hours) to accept your deal?
        • Can we use your brokerage fee to find a price, and go to a local dealer to price match?
        • "Our volume means average savings of 18% off RRP" - Are you able to give an ~% off a specific brand/model upon request before signing up, and if so, do you have a guarantee you'd get close to that saving?
        • Do you organize additional options, either factory or after market (Tinting, tow balls, roof racks etc)?

        The nitty gritty questions:

        • Your website does not contain any information on who you are (ABN, Address etc). Please provide?
        • Can you please link your terms and conditions, so we can have a look, including your privacy statement?
        • You're claiming to assisted dozens of OzBargainers, and 92% of customers (how many? 23 of 25?), yet (if this ABN is correct), the business is only 3 weeks old? Your parent company, BLOCKCHAIN SYSTEMS PTY LTD doesn't seem to have a website?
        • What are you payment methods? Secure Credit Card online portal, PayPal? You mention two amounts, a small deposit (how much?) and then the final amount (small deposit - brokerage fee)?

        Thanks again for your transparency.

  • +2

No problem, happy to answer all of these:

Is there a set time (like 24hours) to accept your deal?

No, we dont believe in pressure, however if its a one of a kind car or a car in stock we will encourage customers to move quickly. Most of our quotes are valid for 7 days.

Can we use your brokerage fee to find a price, and go to a local dealer to price match?

You can, but it does defeat the purpose of using us as we save you the the time, effort and cost in doing so. This is another reason we charge a brokerage fee directr to clients, as we want to ensure we dont provide our IP for free

"Our volume means average savings of 18% off RRP" - Are you able to give an ~% off a specific brand/model upon request before signing up, and if so, do you have a guarantee you'd get close to that saving?

this is part of the initial discussion and ensuring we have aligned expectations and not to be wasting each others time, no point us pursuing a car at an unrealistic price point. We provide a full refund if we cannot get to the estimate price point and the client doesn't want to go ahead.

Do you organize additional options, either factory or after market (Tinting, tow balls, roof racks etc)

yes, we can assist will all of the above, mostly via dealer at competitive pricing to aftermarket

Your website does not contain any information on who you are (ABN, Address etc).

Aware of this, we are rectifying this shortly, this site is very much a placeholder for us until we finish our web development - see answer below for context

You're claiming to assisted dozens of OzBargainers, and 92% of customers (how many? 23 of 25?), yet (if this ABN is correct), the business is only 3 weeks old(connectonline.asic.gov.au)? Your parent company, BLOCKCHAIN SYSTEMS PTY LTD doesn't seem to have a website?

If you take a look at my AMA linked, you can get an idea of how many people we have assisted either directly purchasing via us or indirectly with advice.
In terms of direct ozbargainers that have used our service, probably 25-30 but i would need to go back through and look.
In that AMA i stated was mostly retired for several years, and was operating as a hobby/personal interest for some time. we have changed this recently due to my desire to get back into the industry and grow a brand, hence the recent business name registration. You can see the company itself is 3 years old however
if you have any other question on this topic, please send to me directly as i dont wish to have personal affairs all over the internet.

What are you payment methods? Secure Credit Card online portal, PayPal? You mention two amounts, a small deposit (how much?) and then the final amount (small deposit > all of the above + EFT.

Correct, final balance = full brokerage fee - deposit. Deposit is generally $200.
All of the above + EFT for payment

I used motorbuys to purchase my car. Fee is $49 but refundable when you complete the order.

Pick car you want and dealers from across Australia will send a quote. I had about 30 quotes from across Australia.

    I saved around 9k on my BT50 - 2015.

Looking at a Honda Odyssey VTi-L with most of the options. What sort of discount can you get for it? I'm in Sydney and happy to travel to Melbourne to pickup the car if that would make a big difference. Probably make a family trip of it.

If I have an existing car that I was going to trade in with, how would that work with your service?

    • We can definately help you, should be no need to travel to Melbourne as we have strong Honda relationships in each state(unless you want to have a family trip of course!)

I will message you our details, it's best to have a chat through your requirements

Trade in is no problem, we get all do the details and negotiate your trade in for you also.

For those who have toyed with the idea of using these guys, I have just gone through the process and it was seamless. I have been in direct contact with Harry who is the business owner and he talked me through the entire process before we kicked off. He has been happy to take calls on the weekend if that was easier for me to answer anything I needed.

There was no pushing to go with his service and he wanted me to ensure I had taken a test drive before committing (coming from a 12 year old X-Trail I was confident there would be no issue but Harry preferred to wait). Once confirmed that the car (Subaru Forester Premium with some extras) was what we wanted then the process started. 2 days to secure a purchase price and trade in value that we agreed we would go with it and now we are dealing with the relevant dealer.

Car is a couple of weeks away as the colour we wanted isn't available but is on a ship at the moment.

I am always sceptical about using broker services of any kind as I always think I can do it just as good (same when I first used a buyers advocate for a property and wished I had done so much earlier in that process). To be honest though, for $325 my time is so much more valuable to me than having to deal with the dealers and the stories of how they are doing me a favour, that there manager isn't happy with the price they have given etc etc.

Each to their own with how they purchase but I have been happy with the overall experience.

    • How much off the RRP were you able to get?

      • +1

About $4.5K I think it was with all costs and extras included.

I am sure a seasoned bargainer could achieve the same but I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle. The other thing as well is that I didn't need to go to more than one Subaru dealer to try and play one off against the other to see who was most interested in a sale.

I went to one close to me to test drive and asked them for a trade in value to which they offered me $1K. Harry has managed to get me $1.7K so already I am another $700 up. I am not buying through that particular dealer so whilst the price is the price for the car, different dealers appear they will do different things to move stock and meet targets.

    • Thanks Jollster, appreciate your feedback and great to hear your experience with us was a positive one!

Its not all about the dollars saved (although that a big part) its also the time investment and emotional investment saved, which is the primary reason many of our clients use us repeatedly.

Hope you enjoy the Forester 2.5i Premium when it arrives - they are extremely popular for a reason!

  • +1

I also used Harry and team to help me purchase an i30, the whole process was quick and easy, didn't have to drive all over town and speak to pushy car salesman.

Harry was very helpful and always ready to help out with any questions, He also got a good price for a trade in on my old Suzuki Ignis.

I'd definitely use their services again!

    • Thanks for your feedback Marcacad!
Happy to have been able to help with your new Hyundai i30 Active, hope you're enjoying the car!!
