Recommendations for Best nbn Plan (No $ Limit, FTTP)

Hey all,

Looking to replace our current internet provider (Tangerine) with another internet provider, and would love to hear your suggestions on who to replace them with!

So the reason we're looking to switch is because even though we are on the most expensive plan (Tangerine XXL SpeedBoost) with an advertised 'evening speed' of 83Mbps, we're getting closer to 8Mbps and on Friday nights closer to 3Mbps, which for a family of four all with devices isn't good enough.

We're prioritising speed and reliability the most for our next ISP, and are looking at getting another NBN100 plan if possible. Regarding location we live close to Parramatta, and are currently have a FTTP connection if that helps in anyway.

  • Superloop have proven to be very very good for me.

If you don't count the last week they're ok.

      • Same in Qld. too many drop outs in evening.

    • Just did a quick search of them but it seems like they don't have that great reviews? (https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/superloop)

Also looking at this article (https://www.afr.com/companies/telecommunications/superloop-r…) they've reported made a loss of 70 million dollars which isn't that reassuring.

May I ask whereabouts you live, and what plan & connection you're on?

    • Superloop internet has gone down twice today and four times this week, i'd avoid them at this time.

      • I'm away on vacation, so it hasn't affected me… They were great up till now lol. I get back on Tuesday so we'll see how it goes.

Best for no $ limit: Aussie BB 250/25 for $170pm… ;-)

Not the best value, but the best…

With a bit of sweet talking, Telstra will do 100/40 NBN unlimited plan for $90/m, which includes a free modem. see the thread on WP about it for details on how to get it.

  • On an un related point, if you are on FTTP when switching, have your new service connected to another port on your NBN box. There are 4. That way when the new service is up, you can then switch off the old service. This makes sure you don’t have your internet down.

Costs only a few dollars while the services are concurrent.

Btw if $ no issue you can have upto 4 services at the same time.

    • Thanks for the advice! Would you have to specify that you would want your new service to be connected to a new port? Also since I have an existing FTTP connection does that mean I don't have to wait for the other provider to come and connect me?

      • Yes and yes

But you will need either a second modem, or connect a computer to via Ethernet, to use both connections.

You can also bridge as Niko123456 says, but I don’t know exactly how this is done.

The private sector is constantly looking to cut costs by cutting service levels and removing as much of the customer's money as possible. This has severely damaged Australia's economy according to the ACCC head.

You voted for this if you voted Laberal but generally speaking these voters are pathetically out of touch with reality and refuse to blame themselves for the most part, they just blame whomever the news tells them to because the media controls them.

  • On Whirlpool (ew) there are people that have multiple connections (ie, two or more services) which they bridge together.

  • Anything less than the advertised "evening speed" over an FTTP connection is a fault. Have you asked Tangerine to fix it?

    • Yes, I've messaged Tangerine technical support and their response was turn off and on the NBN box, which I have done several times.

      • I know it’s strange and was for me, but I had after a year with Telstra, similar issues which just started after Christmas, and they had me change my wireless channel from 11 to 6 now everything is stable again.
