Unfortunately with eBay sales they cover any additional discount promotions that they may have going and it is not covered by the seller. When I clicked on this link it discounted the amplifier for me to $842.65 so I guess it's a different discount for different users but this is something that is out of retailer control unfortunately… But don't forget we do have the Spin the Wheel on our website so you may be able to get it even cheaper!

        • +1

Why not just pass on that discount now rather than go through the wheel ordeal. A $27 saving on a $900 product isn't a deal.

Not true unless we've been mislead or things have changed ebay covers 5%

          • +1

@justtoreply: As a retail store on eBay we have never covered any cost on the discounts they offer so I am speaking from our experience. Unless the seller has a different arrangement with eBay and their store which I am not aware of I cannot say otherwise.

      • Any experience with this seller?

    • Happy to price match the $1 difference even though we are offering free delivery insurance with this unit as well (which would normally be an additional $27) :)

      • Its free delivery on the other site also

      • Take the insurance out and give us another 27$$ off

at this stage is it worth waiting for hdmi 2.1?

    • I guess it depends on your interest for its features, and your willingness to change TV's too…

But it's a great time if you don't need that.

      • That's right thanks for your response.. HDMI 2.1 is only for 8K support so you'd have to change your TV to 8K and by the time there is 8K content available (at the moment there isn't any) you may be waiting for a new HDMI format to come out. I personally don't think there's any point in waiting at the moment so I'd snap this one up at a great price (and it comes with free delivery and delivery insurance) but it's ultimately up to you :)

Possibly variable refresh rate too? Which has more appeal with next Consoles, but tbh it's not something I'd chuck out my gear for….

8k is absolutely a waste of time. Especially given LG and Samsung are using different standards and streaming 8k would be beyond the overwhelming majority of internet connections.

        • not true! HDMI is also for 4K. I do have an LG B9 TV (a 4K TV) and it has HDMI 2.1 so it's misleading to say HDMI 2.1 IS ONLY for 8K support.

    • In my opinion, not really.

4K TVs have only just become mainstream, along with UHD Blurays - 8K TVs at a mainstream level will be along way away, and 8K content even further as there as still several technical challenges to overcome.

Blurays currently only store up to 100GB - your average UHD Bluray movie is around 60-80GB. An 8k bluray wont fit on current physical media.

Streaming 8k content will be difficult too, especially with the internet speeds in Australia. 4k streaming bandwidth doesn't even hold a candle to UHD bluray content either.

8K is a long way away, unless you got money to burn - in which case, probably wouldn't care about 'holding out'

      • While you'd need the TV to match (which is the expensive bit), the new consoles will supposedly support 8K. So in 12 months you could have the player, and the amp to support it, would just need to shell out the stupid money for a TV!

But there's always going to be those people at the forefront of buying, and will splash $10k+ to deck out their home theatre. $9k for a 75" TV, $1k or so for the new console, $1k or so for an amp

I guess if you needed an upgrade (for a new house or something), and hadn't yet made the leap to 4K, you could justify the price for 8K if you partnered it with a new console.

        • Definitely won't be 8K gaming though. Just like the Xbox One S supported 4k too.

So you might be able to output 8K for media, Netflix etc. but you still have the issue of a reliable + sufficient internet connection, along with the content availability.

8K is 4x the pixels of 4k. That presents a significant increase in costs for anyone producing content or streaming/distributing it. When such a tiny percentage of the market will have the capability to watch 8K content, it'll take a while before it becomes justifiable. We're not even at the stage where we're streaming UHD Bluray content yet.

          • @Harold Halfprice:

Definitely won't be 8K gaming though.

Check the link, with 8K on the CPU I don't think they'd do that for just simply 8K streaming

    (Was/RRP $1,399)

    Looks like it's been $899 since 29th December…

    • Yes that's on the eBay store which have different stock allocation, however through the retail store it hasn't been anything below $1399 before the reduction to $888. Unfortunately we were unable to post on OzBargain prior to today however now that we can we have brought this pricing to you.

  • Dang these are $$$ in Australia.
Slightly off topic - but the TX-RZ740 was $899SG at Singapore Harvey Norman at Christmas. That’s $970aud. And also 230v. Not Rio’s fault or any other retailer but we are screwed here.

Still nice price Rio for store over EBAY.

I know the Kef distributor for Australia got some bad publicity a while back, New Zealand prices were actually notably less… discussed it with a local retailer too.

      Maybe similar issue here?

      liberal border tax doesn't help

    • +1

Onkyo has always been a fair chunk higher here in AUS. Keep in mind the AU Distributor won't repair or sell parts for an imported unit, even at full cost.

      • I’m still running my tx-sr606 with no HDMI problems. I’d like to think (hope) if I could ever get one from OS that it would work for 15+ years too!
Or if not. Get another cheap one from OS in the next model.

        • +1

I have a TX-NR609 and its hdmi board failed 2 years into owning it. Amazon didn't help with return shipping so i sent it over to London with a family member who was living there and Onkyo picked it up from there and returned it to him. He then brought it back to AU with him next time he visited. Has been fine since.

  • No Yamaha receivers on RIO ?

Looks like you get preferential pricing from Onkyo.. still can't beat Selby pricing ?

Bought one of these for a tad under $600 on sale December 2017

Edit: My bad, 676, not 696

    • that was pre-border tax? the pro America goods policy…

  • Isn't the 696 a down grade on the previous version, only 9 speaker terminals not 11
