  • how much for a bar fridge or a 280lt fridge? ….just trying to see what you really get cause upto can mean no one ever gets 150

    • $150 is for a full sized fridge freezer unit. For a bar fridge or freezer only unit, it's $50, and a fridge only unit taller than 1.15m is $125 :)

    what a good idea

what do they do with them after? just destroy them safely and get rid of the old refrigeration gasses properly?

do they get some sort of credits for doing green work?

    • They profit? That gift card has to come from somewhere.

    • yeah just reading the FORM

Are all fridges in working order (i.e do they draw power?) ……….No (you are not eligible for this service)
      becuase they sell the fridge

i would rather just put it up on gumtree and if no one buys it put it out in cleanup

      • +3

Lucky to get $50 for a full sized working fridge on Gumtree though unless it's a real new model

        • wilder maybe you should go look on gumtree for a fridge and see the listing prices

          • +4

@Braggs: They don't sell though lol

Either relists or months and months uptime

I say this from experience trying to sell a few older model fridges - not many people want them if they do there's an abundant supply

            • @Wilder94: yeah right …you can take a 50 voucher for a $200 fridge then

if the fridge is finished and still draws power then fair enough …..only a moron would give up a item for way less than its worth

              • +2

@Braggs: For a full size they give $150 that's not a great loss to get rid of it

                • @Wilder94: if its no good then yes ….if its a one hung low brand then yes which are worthless to resell anyway….

like i said only a moron would give up an item for less than what its worth
like people that trade in at ebgames only exception to this is if you can get away with offloading a non working console onto them

      • +2

The units have to be drawing power as the scheme requires us to be reducing energy usage by taking the unit. We pick up a lot of fridges that don't get cold properly, as long as the motor still runs :)

      • +1

ah yeah it says decommissioning so i was curious what they did to regain the money

        but thanks for the reply

    • +1

We decommission the fridges in an enviromentally friendly manner, and destroy the gasses contained. The program is funded through the state government REES program, so the energy retailers pay for the incentive.

      • so why does it need to be a working fridge? ….. ok you answered it in another comment

        • +1

Removing a working fridge reduces the power usage in the property, which is one of the requirements of the REES program.

            @Mickidona: So, what about SA's larger cities…?

Anyone in Mt Gambier, Whyalla, etc.
doing this kind of thing (with the
            rewards)?

People in HIGH-COST areas would need
this at least as much as Metro-Adel.
folks, who see many more discounts
            than "country-dwellers"

            • @IVI: Hi, at the moment we're working with an E-Waste recycler in Lonsdale, and he's happy to work as far north as Gawler and as far south as Victor Harbour. Unfortunately we don't currently have a partner happy to work more rurally than that.

Thanks i figured it was along those line and i hinted towards in my original message

i know the government wants those old 2nd fridges with the banned gasses to go away and there is still a lot of them around

  • You has me until the words 'up to' popped up….

    • Voucher prices vary depending on the type of fridge, a full size fridge freezer unit receives $150 voucher.

Hey OP, do you know if there's anything similar in other states?

    • That's a great question ! Personally, YESS do a few efficiency services in SA and VIC, but we only do the fridge decommissioning in SA. Might be worth checking out what energy efficiency schemes are available in other states :)

Looks like there's lot more options than I thought for the gift card.

    https://www.giftpay.com.au/egift/infohelp.aspx?gift=CG7ZMY8D…

Includes Ebay, Bunnings, Harvey Norman, Coles, Kmart, Super Cheap Auto, plus many more… Not bad.

  • I did the fridge pickup from them and they also offer $150 direct deposit to your bank account. Great deal!
