Short stay in Singapore

Question for the travel savvy amongst us- we're flying into Singapore for a 3 day stopover and arrive around midnight.

Looking at options for somewhere to stay on arrival before checking in to our actual accommodation in the afternoon we've found that there is a transit hotel that offers a 6hr stay for around $130, however, it is still airside in the airport. This means we can't go through immigration or baggage claim, so we have to just leave our checked baggage to the mercy of the lost & found dept at Changi. We've checked and that is the system unfortunately, and carry on only is not an option for the length of tgis trip.

Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions for a short-stay hotel? Or anything we can do, luggage in tow, for 6-8 hours until we can at least drop bags at our other hotel?

  • You can just take your bags to your actual hotel and they will hold them for you.

    • Thanks- doesn't solve the problem of where to sleep or what to do between landing and the day starting though.

Then go to another hotel if you need or just get a room at the same one for the duration. Quite a lot of hotels if not all will have 24x7 staff on front desk.

I rocked up at the Marina Bay Sands at 4am a few months back with my family and just got a room for the day (flight was at midnight). No real hassle.

How much did the day stay at the MBS cost? We stayed there for a night and the price of the hotel was worth it just for that pool!

  • Drop off luggage at the actual hotel.

Depending on where it's located, there could be a lot of 24/7 places open in the area.

Only issue is no alcohol to be sold after 10.30pm. If that's your thing.

hotel on outside will be cheaper.

or in true ozbargain style standoutside till 6am punching darts or staring aimlessly at something till public transport starts, book a hotel for the next day but drop bags off early

OMG. It's an early call but this is the best comment this year by far.

  • Look onto singapore airlines stayover deals…sometimes they have deals for 1 dollar stay for first night.. only valid if flying thru singapore airlines

Believe it or not - if you do not pick up your luggage, they will go to lost and found and will be waiting for you there in the morning and you can retrieve your bag. I have done this several times over the last ten years where I have had overnight/long connections and gone straight to an airside hotel for rest, and it has been perfectly fine. I learnt this from a frequent flyer site many years ago and I am pretty sure if you looked hard enough you would find it.

That said, if I was in your situation (with 3 days) I would go straight to the hotel in the city, that way you have a proper rest and can start off your morning exploring - rather than moving from airport to city etc. If you want to check in at 2am, the only real guarantee is to book the night before and to advise the hotel that you will be arriving very late at 2am so they know you are coming (and not a no-show guest).

You can book hotels by the hour in Geylang 😉😉

geylang 10 for sure… 6.95 an hour, i had to use as a last resort but could only get a 5 hour window…. that bed had more semen than the us navy

  • Um book an extra night?

    • This. I did this recently as I had the whole family in tow

  • If you look at YOTELAIR this is singapore side of the airport in the Jewel. So you will go through customs then its on the very top level of the Jewel.

  • Alternatively as above book an extra night in the hotel youre staying in - just ensure it has 24/7 checkin. This would be my preferable way as then you can have a sleepin after arriving not needing to worry about getting up checking out before travelling to your next hotel.

Taxis are super cheap in singapore so just grab one to wherever youre staying after you arrive

  • So much to do in Singapore and the train network is excellent. Given your time frame you might just want to head into city. Check out Chinatown, Orchard shopping area. If your into sights go to the gardens, a river cruise, there is a observation wheel for a view of the city.

  • If it was me I would just book an extra night in your hotel, if reception is open 24 hours. Otherwise you can

    1. Stay at the airside hotel (which is very basic) and take the risk of possibly losing your bags
    2. Stay at a landside airport hotel like Crowne Plaza or Yotel (which are overpriced)
    3. Head into the city and stay at a different hotel/hostel close to your booked hotel
    4. If on a tight budget just find a bench in the baggage collection area or in Jewel and lie down for a few hours
  • Try Butternut Treet Hotel. It's a small place but very clean, it's located close to a train station nearby Chinatown

  • Yotel in Jewell, no day rate sadly, but often have a special. Join up for free.

  • I have booked a day rate at the Crown Plaza before for SGD180 ++.
