Chemist Warehouse Is Not Happy for an Exchange/Refund

Hey guys,

I bought 2 bags of A2 adult milk powders from CW yesterday, but I picked one skim milk. I'm after full cream so brought one back for exchange today.

What I got told is they are not able to process the exchange/refund because it's a "consumable product". I told them that's what i'm entitled to under the consumer law. They kept saying it's consumable product. They eventually agreed to exchange it as one off.

Can CW refuse my request given its a "consumable product" under the consumer law? Living here for many years, this is my first time to experience something like this.

Most of the CW products have consumable in nature. Does that mean they dont need to worry about exchange or refund?

Are they doing dodgy business?

Thanks guys

    Google milk tampering
That's why they don't want it back

    Sighs

Generally, a store does not have to give a refund or replacement if a customer simply changes their mind about a product.

Under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), the customer is only entitled to choose a refund or replacement for a major problem with a product covered by consumer guarantees.

Consumer law doesn't cover you buying the wrong product and wanting to return it.

They were under no obligation to accept the return/

This is entirely your fault and not their problem at all. You do not have a right to return goods because you choose the wrong ones.

    Are they doing doggy business?

It might be their preferred style but probably a bit personal to ask.

    • Need a picture…..

  • You bought the wrong thing, you're not entitled to an exchange or refund.

    Ah okay. Thanks guys.

I know it’s my fault to pick a wrong one.

I was under an impression that the change of mind is covered under the consumer law.

    Good to know something new

    • Downvotes?

That’s fine. I believe you never return anything you bought.

Well if its faulty and not as per the claimed use then you can.

Change of mind isnt really even a thing in many places outside of pharmaceuticals…

      • We do but we don't make a thread out of it.

    • At least this community has managed to educate another person about consumer law.

    /thread?

  • "I told them that's what i'm entitled to under the consumer law."

Supermarkets and their generous return policies must be the bane of other businesses that get quoted Australian Consumer & their entitlement to a free * INSERT ANY PRODUCT HERE *. I am even sure it has been quoted at car dealerships and the like…

    • I say it again… until this afternoon, I genuinely thought change of mind is under the law.

Let me know where you found you can return a car coz you said you are very sure.

      I should’ve have bought from Coles/Woolies.

For those who attack/joke on me, you guys can wait next to the customer service counter and for anyone with ‘change of mind’ request, politely to ask them to fxxx off.

      Thanks!

      • Sorry, not having a go at you. I think we are all just so used to easy returns/exchanges at supermarkets that we don't realise that others are not so generous.

  • I told them that's what i'm entitled to under the consumer law

You are wrong. Consumer law doesn't cover 'change of mind'.

    • loud and clear
