This is a fantastic lightweight backpack with a brilliant harness. Most stores are $200-$250.

I own 4 osprey packs and this is the one I used to hike the Camino de Santiago walk last year. I had tons of room for my gear on to 800km walk from St Jean Pied de Port in France to Santigo de Compostella in Spain. Total pack weight was under 10 kgs which is a little heavy for the Camino walk, however I packed a lot of tech.

Harness breathes so nicely with the mesh harness that holds the pack off your back so your sweat can dry, keeping you cool on the trail. For bigger hikes carrying tent and cooking gear hikes I use my larger Osprey Atmos.

I use the Exos now as my go to pack for family activities to the zoo / museum / etc. Easy access to a 1.25l bottle of each side, food and clothes in the pack and hats etc in the stretchy outer section.

A great pack for lightweight hikers and pilgrims.

Don't forget 2.45% cashrewards.

How's the flex in the description!! 800km is insane.

I did the Inca Trail just a couple weeks ago (42ish km) with a black wolf bag. The few people who didn't prepare with a proper bag really suffered… if you have a sizable walk coming up, get a proper bag like this.

    • +3

What's more insane is I did it with my 11 year old son! Oh what do you mean by flex?

      • +5

        Ask your son.. 😉

      • +1

        oh wow that's pretty impressive.

Like how you flex to show off muscles, you "flex" by saying how far you can walk haha

  • Damn… I really want the 48L, the 38 is just a bit too small

    • They do a bigger version in the exos. Are you sure you need the extra space? Take your gear into a store and try it.

      • If I was just carrying hiking gear the 38L is plenty, but I carry a decent amount of camera gear which takes up a lot of space.

I'm moving down from a 60L Osprey bag

        • +1

The Osprey Manta is great for camera gear. More sections too which is handy for camera. Wiggle dont have it but paddypalin have them on sale at times if you can wait. Good thing is that comes with a hydration pack and better pockets all around, downside is the harness is only almost as good. Still good, just not as fabulous as Exos / Atmos models.

          • @ShipShapeRC: Would this be big enough for a 1 man lightweight tent + sleeping bag and maybe a laptop w/ charger? with the usual other stuff that is carried (some clothes, some food etc).

            • +1

@conesq: I would look at the Atmos for that. The harness is even more awesome on the Atmos. I'm thinking the Atmos 65 AG would be a good fit. Might have a little extra room. It sounds like your load and pack would be around 15-20kgs depending on your items. You might get away with the Atmos 50. I err on a slightly larger pack if unsure. Will you be doing some km each day with it? I would get your gear together and try your local bricks and mortar shop. A list of osprey retailers can be found at https://www.osprey.com/au/en/retailers/

              • @ShipShapeRC: Definitely not after 60L or bigger or have pack weight up near 20kg. Going to check some Osprey's out tomorrow in a store. Thanks

                • +1

@conesq: They make this Exos in a 48L. Also there is a Kestrel 48L. The kestrel has a more conventional harness, so it's closer to the back, but still much nicer than a travel pack. I'll post a listing for that in a minute.

I use a small Osprey pack for cycling and hiking. Can confirm they make awesome packs. Best I've ever used.

    • +2

Just thought I'd mention that this Exos can't be used for cycling. The frame sticks up behind your neck so when you're in position on your bike and looking forward, the frame will hit the back of your neck.

  • Anyone got recommendations on a good travel/camera bag? Looking for something with similar volume but not as… tourist looking. Doesn't have to specifically be a camera bag as I can get an insert. Will be carrying taking three lenses on my next trip - 12mm, 18-55mm and a 100-400mm with my x-t3, I'd also like to fit a decent size water bottle, coat/jumper, umbrella etc etc. My last trip I tried fitting the x-t3 with the 18-55 in a osprey farpoint day bag with a bottle, travel docs, rain jacket and it was a small nightmare.

    • The ospray Manta is more square in shape and had nice compartments on the outside. It's what my son used on Camino and I thought it would make a nice dedicated SLR bag day walk bag with some coreflute dividers put in to suit your gear.

    • Check out ThinkTank bags:
      https://www.thinktankphoto.com

I use their Mindshift Rotation 180 - Horizon as my trekking photo bag. Worked brilliantly on my Everest Base Camp trek where I needed to access my gear quickly on a whim whilst keeping it weather protected. It also has room for a tripod, water bladder and rain gear, but it's over-engineered for just an everyday travel bag with a camera compartment. Thinktank have a wide range of great gear though.

      • Now that is some dedicated kit! Not what I need but I like it.

  • does osprey products carry lifetime warranty?

    • +1

Sure does, and I have used it. Super easy. World wide too. I have read they have fixed 20 year old packs at no charge.

      • +1

awesome, time for another (one too many) backpack (that i probably wont use)

  • +1

Anyone knows how this would go as carry-on?

I've got a 60L pack already and need a day pack that's 30-40L to hike the Annapurna Trail, but would prefer on the bigger side.

This looks perfect except that it's quite tall and skinny and I'm worried the ground staff might not let me take it on as carry-on.

    • +2

Look at the osprey manta, it's a safer bet. Although I have seen packs this big on carry on.

      • Hey that's a great recommendation, thanks! It looks perfect for what I need, but unfortunately no on sale at Wiggle =[

Time to start Googling I guess!

  • Love mine also. Mine's a tad small but the design is great

  • +1

How in the hell did you hike 800km with such a small pack, most people use bags twice that size for walks nowhere close to that distance.

    • +2

Camino is not the usual wilderness track. Essentially, you walk from town to town and you stay overnight in an accommodation. Where you can have hot meals and hot showers. Hence you can skip the bulky items like tents and cooking stuffs.

      • Not always hot showers I'm afraid. An yes you stay in pilgrim hostels called albergues. If you want a hollywood but pretty true to the walk look at it movie see the 'The Way' by Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez. My pack was 10 kgs which is heavy. You take no tent, no cooking, I took a sleeping bag liner but no sleeping bag, no cooking stuff. 3 undies, 3 socks, 1 short, 1 long pants, 1 jumper, thermals, rain gear, camera gear, phone, first aid and not much more. The pre-Camino pack took me a year of planning and gram counting. My 11 year old son took similar but he had an Osprey Manta which suit his shorter back length.

The walk has been done for over a thousand years so it's well catered to the hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who walk it each year - and it does not have a to be a religious walk either, that's up to you.

  • Hoping the 48L goes back down to $164 some time soon….

  • +1

Neat! I have a bunch of packs, my favourite being my 70L Berghaus one but its just too big for a lot of my activities, and my smaller packs are cheaper no-name ones have are heavy/uncomfortable. Cant pass up this price

    • +1

I have a berghaus about 60L, nice pack. You are gonna LOVE this exos harness.

  • Is there a height specification for the respective sizes? And do the capacity differ between the sizes (like the Farpoint does?)

  • Awesome bag for ultralight, used it for the overland trek. It is small, but fit six days of gear with a foam sleeping mat wrapped outside.

    • 6 days on a 38l pack… Can’t be choosy about having to change underwear everyday eh?

      • hand wash and pin on outside of pack to dry if not dry overnight. That's how I did Camino.

  • Shouldn't this deal be under travel/luggage?

    • This is more a hiking pack than a travel luggage item. But I see the cross-over potential.

  • Just purchased 2 packs. Bought them separately from different devices to get the $20 discount on both. Thanks heaps OP, been looking for smallish packs for a while now and these look perfect!

  • Anyone recommend a day pack?
