[NSW] LEGO 80101 Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner $90 @ LEGO Store, Bondi Junction

870

Happy to share this deal for all the Lego fans as this set was originally released exclusively in Asia early 2019.
Most importantly this is an retired product on Lego official website!

For some reason Sydney Lego Stores were able to have them in stock since boxing day.

Saw many comments from other Myer Lego 30% deal wishing to buy other earlier Chinese New Year sets and here you go!
This set was sold out last week and surprised to see more Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner sets this morning at Bondi Junction store.

These sets are been listed for more than $150 on eBay and Lego store only sell them at original price of $90!

      time to update this:

      http://www.artnet.com/WebServices/images/ll00008lldkPRJFgY01…

maybe a colab with Winnie the Pooh

      • Tbh that looks very ww2. Not for me.

        • That's not a real set, if you're being serious.

It was a publicity stunt by a Polish artist who created a Lego model of a Nazi concentration camp in 1996 that attracted some controversy over the fact that he tried to claim Lego endorsed his artwork, when they didn't.

This is the dumbest pandering to the Chinese communists if ever there was… Yuck… Lego is a strictly european toy (Danish), Christmas dinners only thanks

      • You're a lovely person aren't you?

  • +1

The Lion Dance set is pretty sweet but who would honestly buy the set dinner set with the grannies?

    • +7

Because I want to know if the lazy susan actually rotates. It better rotate.

Because cute little Lego version of Chinese dishes are cute. I want to know what they are?

      • +4

It rotates. It is an awesome set.

    • +8

I did. Because it's cool and reminds me of my childhood

      • +1

        fair call

    • +5

My preference out of all the sets would be the reunion set simply because that represents memories of all those Chinese New Year dinners with the relos, etc over the years, and my guess is it's the same for a lot of other Chinese-Asians who are into Lego. May not relate to non-Asians who don't have such dinners but I can tell you that it definitely resonates with the memories of a lot of Asian people out there

      • +2

        Chinese-Asians

Chinese are Asians … Did you mean Chinese-Australian?

        • I initially typed out just Asians, then I thought about it some more and thought that not necessarily all Asians celebrate Chinese New Year(Korean? Japanese? Indonesian? Filipinos? etc), so I added the "Chinese-" prefix to be more specific as to what type of Asians typically celebrate Chinese New Year.

Couldn't figure out a better way of doing it :)

          • @Kenb0: It’s also known as Lunar New Year for non-Chinese

      • +1

This. The others are very typical scenes associated with CNY but the reunion dinner really captures the spirit of CNY to me. I love the ltitle ang bao packets.

    • +7

It’s three generations of Chinese LEGO people enjoying tea together, what’s not to love about that.

    • Many people did when it was first released last year. Sold out so quickly.

  • +7

The Lazy Susan in Lego set 80101 DOES indeed rotate :-)

And for those that just “want to know” what’s on the table… According to the set description, this appears to be a fairly concise description of the items on the table:

“Dining table comes with assorted printed traditional Chinese food and utensil elements including including fish, chicken, shrimp, crab, meatballs, soup, vegetables, jiaozi, tangyuan, spring rolls, rice, rice cake and a chopsticks & spoon, plus a bowl and 6 plate elements.

Other accessory elements in the dining room include 2 red gift envelopes, 3 spring scrolls, 2 vases with flowers. The front garden features a path with paving stone elements and a green ‘grass’ base with flower elements.“

    • Wikipedia says in China they simply call them “ dinner table turntables”.

    • +2

When a Lego set is actually more awesome than your actual Chinese NYE celebrations…

    • +1

Here's a photo of the food, and an arrow to show the rotating lazy Susan.

  • +10

I thought Lego store will be hosting a Chinese New Year’s eve dinner banquet or something, lol.

  • Great find! This is one of the beloved set of LEGO I have!
Do you know how many set they have left?

    • approximately 20 boxes at store this morning!
Now I am hunting Dragon Dance set!! :)

  • Only if they sell them online… bondi is a bit far to get to in this heat…

  • +3

I'll have to make a Sam Dastyari minifig!

Set 80101 was also available at Myer on Boxing Day… alongside the new sets 80104 and 80105. Re-stocked in time for Chinese New Year 2020 (January 25th).

Set 80101 tries to encapsulate many typical elements found in a Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner… most people (kids) that have experienced the real thing will reflect (enjoy) the memory of receiving red packets (filled with cash) when they visit relatives or friend’s places at Chinese New Year.

For parents, the reflection is probably not on the red-packets (since they’re the ones filling the red-packets for potential visitor’s kids). But they will enjoy the memories of the multi-generational chats, catching up with old lost friends / family, and having lots of yummy once-a-year foods and snacks.

    • was it on myer website? I just had a look and couldn't find it on Myer. Now I really want it.

      • Nope, couldn’t find it on the Myer website on the day. But was definitely at multiple Myer stores on Boxing Day (I picked up one myself). They got snapped up pretty quick (same day).

  • ok peeps, I just called Bondi store and they put one aside for me!! yay!

    • Lucky you! Go grab it quickly!
I tried to ask them to put one aside for me on boxing day but they would not do it for me! :(

      • They are happy to hold it till Sunday for me! I was not expecting that thought I would just give them a call to try my luck, haha. Very happy!

  • +1

Not a deal because this is RRP.

The Chinese New Year's Eve dinner was re-released on Boxing Day. Broadway LEGO also has them in stock.

  • No stock of any of these at Myer Brisbane city. I is a sad panda 😫

    • +9

Missed opportunity to call it panda-ing.

  • +4

Not a sale price tho is it.. I picked it up for 20% less from DJs and the other sets at 30% off from Myer

  • +1

I understand why some don’t consider paying RRP for this Lego set a deal, but if you are one of those who consistently missed out on getting this set (I have been trying to get this since it was introduced), having the opportunity to get this even at RRP can still be a good thing.

  • +1

Lol not a deal they sell for around $160 !

    • You're comparing RRP to aftermarket/third-party/scalpers? Then My thing will seem like a deal..

  • !@ rang the store no mail orders : (

  • 80101 - that's a set you cant miss

  • -2

    这些可以收藏吗?

    • They could be collected when in stock, but I think stocks are pretty much gone now… That leaves us with Ebay or similar options. It’s quite a long box, so that’s part of the reason why it’s pricey to buy (postage is expensive for the sellers to post)

Write English mate, you in Australia kapeesh

      • +1

        Capisce

      • +1

        you in Australia kapeesh

Maybe fix your own use of the English language first before criticising others?

        • +2

'Capisce' is Italian, but the phonetic transliteration spelt "kapeesh" or "capeesh" is a common enough and perfectly valid alternate form of spelling listed in dictionaries.

          • @Miami Mall Alien: It was more the grammar that I was pointing out, not the spelling; thanks for the fact

  • -2

I got the last one in VIC!

  • Lego should give a free Chinese New year dinner to the fireys.

  • +3

Didn't realise that Lego was cashing in on CNY.

The Dinner set even comes with red lucky money envelopes as accessories too!

Given Lego's history of cashing in on movies, can we expect a Wong Fei Hung or Ip Man series of Lego sets too? A set from the scene in Ip Man 3 where he protects his wife whilst taking on the Muay Thai fighter would be awesome.

  • +4

Just left Bondi junction store. It's madness! They must have sold or put away 10-20 sets while I was standing there.

Thanks so much OP! Managed to get one.

Also, up yours to the people on gumtree trying to flog it for $200! Glad I didn't succumb to the FOMO.

    • Were you allowed to buy more than 1 or rationed out at 1 per person ?

      • +1

I had a friend that had called ahead to reserve one. I wasn't even allowed to pick that one up. The staff were being strict, which is probably a good thing.

        • I was in contact with a friend in Syd but called it off assuming 1 per person at the most if not Ozb out.

Probably only worth it for someone with a cat , dog duck and few chickens if it counted :)

    • Thanks so much OP! Managed to get one.

But the irony is this post could've been the cause of the rush buying if any of those were Broden.
Going off what people are trying to flog them for it's just like buying a property and hoping some likely-Chinese-investor just pays up for it.

  • Display model sold too… none left according to staff

  • Anyone seen these in Myer in Perth? We need our LEGO store!!

    • +1

Yes they were there at 8am Boxing Day at Perth City store. I grabbed the first one, and there was about 7 left at that point in time…

Then they sold out. 1 person (me) reserved some and didn’t want it so staff member Tim put one back on the shelf a few days later (and it sold straight away).

Myer Garden City Perth sold the last one at around lunchtime Boxing Day (I was there buying something else and saw a lady take it to the reg ). They were having an POS meltdown… and the only way to buy stuff was with cash (which I didn’t have on me).

Yes, we need a Lego store… Don’t think we have the population (yet) to support it :-(

  • I think I actually need this in my life.

  • +1

Are they all sold out in Sydney? Bummer :(

  • +1

For those who live near Campbelltown NSW or can get them to post it out, they had them at Toymate when I went on the weekend

    • Probably gone by now.. oh well

  • +1

Just remembered that I took a photo on Boxing Day at Perth City store for proof that it did happen…

  • Instant profit here from discontinued set.. I wouldn't mind building it to put into my glass cabinet for feng shui reasons. lol

  • Technic is the superior set

    • LOL. Apples and oranges are different fruits.

      (••) ( ••)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)

  • Few more sets at Bondi Junction right now

  • +3

Should be $88 for extra Chinese marketing power

  • There is stock in Toyworld Adelaide

  • Come with fortune cookie?

  • +1

LEGO Broadway is restocked. Seems to have 8 out front and a few in the back FYI. Safer to call them.

  • Sold out at Broadway when I asked.
