What phone app do you use to keep and store your store gift cards, eg. woolies, Coles gift cards on your phone so you don’t need to carry the physical card around?
What app works for you? Or prefer over other apps?

StoCard or Apple Wallet.
Unclear what you mean. Stocard stores loyalty/reward cards, but I'm not sure anything stores gift cards.
EDIT: I stand corrected. Stocard is designed for loyalty cards but can also store gift cards. There is an also app called Gyft.

Both seem poor where a magnetic strip is used on the gift card rather than a barcode.

Lol, neither did I but it seems quite basic in that it just stores the barcode/card number. I don't think you can see balance or anything and I think if the card uses a magnetic strip the cashier has to just type the card number manually, which I imagine would make them very happy.

This. It set the standard for what I expect from other apps but unfortunately I don't see anyone else doing anything that good.
Closest I have is my Suncorp Benefits app which is where I buy the gift cards, and you can manually update the balances, but they're all stored online which means no internet = no access (ie the app is just a browser window).
Would be better if the app could track and update the balances too!
I don't use WW money that much to keep track, so if I know the balance is low I'd split transaction and make a $0.50-1.00 payment; wait for the balance to show up on POS and pay the remaining.
I can't remember where but some SS terminals will automatically prompt to just use the remaining balance (which might be what you described) which is nice. But someimes it's nice to just know how much is left on the gift card easily… and I have to admit, the superior app experience has made me start shopping at Woolies more often now than Coles (not just for gift cards but also the fuel vouchers too and rewards card all in one app).
I like this too.
I do however wish you could scan a barcode or something rather than having to type the card number into the eftpos terminal.
