eBay seller wants me to not sign for package and tell courier to return-to-sender. Is this normal?

Just wondering if anyone could offer some advice. I bought a 3k~ item on eBay recently from an authorised retailer and I ended up requesting a return a day after. 4 days pass and the retailer said they had already sent the item. Great.

They now want me to not sign for the item and request it be returned-to-sender. Will I have to pay the courier for this? Should I just sign for the item and do eBay's official return program? At least I know that has tracking and 100% works. I am worried that this item would "go missing" or something if it weren't properly tracked through some un-official return process.

Thanks all.

    Yep, normal.

I've done it a couple of times in the past.

When the item arrives just refuse it and don't sign anything.

That way the courier will be responsible for returning the item to the seller, you don't have to pay or do anything else.

If the item goes astray somewhere there's no comeback on you.

Yes thats correct, refuse delivery, so the item will be returned to the sender

The seller won't have a delivered tracking item, so you'll get a refund.

What the hell? Why are you doing this in the first place. Buy it or don't buy it, just don't do that.

    • probably found a better price a few hours after placing order, happens all the time.

yep I guessed as much, wasting everyones time for $20 saving

    • I bought it just before Christmas and paid for it asap, but the business then told me they were going to be away for up to 2-3 weeks. They didn't mention this before I ordered. I thought the turnaround would be instant as per usual. The same item was on sale on Boxing day for a better price. So I saved money by purchasing locally, and didn't have to wait weeks.

      Thanks for your answer.
