Anyone BANNED from Amazon AU for Any Reason?

Hi OzBargainers.

Has anyone had any negative experiences with Amazon AU such as being banned from using their platform and services?

I’ve seen recently in the news articles how people have been banned due to receiving too many credits (missing/damaged/late deliveries) etc, making too many returns, and other things.

I myself am not banned or anything, but just curious. I wouldn’t want to be banned, I’ve made over 80 orders in the last 2 months alone (well I only got prime 2 months ago). I love Amazon. I have however requested credits as compensation due to damaged and late deliveries and price drops, as many do here on OzBargain.

Anyone is welcome to share their experiences here, and if anyone did get banned, how did you go about it. I personally think it’s unfair to get banned if they are the one that’s giving out credits on their mistakes (such as listing or pricing errors).

  • unfair to get banned if they are the one that’s giving out credits on their mistakes (such as listing or pricing errors)

Individual credits, etc., are transactional issues.

At a point in time, Amazon analyses its customer base and asks the question: Which a*hole customers do I want to get rid off (that is, will increase Amazon's profitability, allow it to price even better for its desirable customers, etc.) and bam, see you later.

So instead of looking at fairness from your perspective, look at it from Amazon's.

  • I've never been banned from Amazon, but I have been told that I couldn't get any more free months of Prime as compensation for late deliveries. I think I have paid for Prime 6 or 7 times in the last 18 months. Twice I was told that I had accrued 3 months of free Prime credits on my account, so the "best" they could do was give me $5 account credit. I took what I could get. I didn't mind get an extra month of prime in exchange for waiting an extra day.

This happened when Amazon opened their Sydney warehouse. They were still offering 2 day free prime shipping to rural Victoria for all orders. Australia Post were never going to reliably hit that target. Generally stuff from Sydney arrives in 3 business days. Now I can tell if something is coming from Dandenong or Moorebank because the latter shows as 3-4 business days for delivery.

    • So you had a cry because your stuff was 1 day late?

If they said 2 days amd took 3, why wouldn't you complain?

And if it came in 1 day, would you pay extra to make up for the other times they credited you?

@ihbh: They promised 2 days, if you paid AusPost directly for the same service you'd complain. If not you're a sucker getting taken for a ride.

@ihbh: 1 day?! Nothing gets here next day. Mail sent from the next town can take a week because it goes to Melbourne for sorting before it comes back.

Amazon offer a "guaranteed delivery date". If they miss that date, they should compensate customers.

      • I didn't have a cry, I would contact customer service and ask why my delivery was late. They would give me the "we're very sorry, here have an extra month of prime" boilerplate. It took about 2mins. I don't know about you, but I think an hourly rate of $200+ is pretty good.

  • anyone know many accounts for prime trials i can get to before i get banned?

    • How many trial did you get so far?
Did you use the same credit card and physical address?

      • probably about 4-5.

there's definitely ways they can check if they're keen even if a delete the card/address or be careful about IP address/cookies.

i'm more curious to know whether they'd bother.

        • Use VPN and incognito tab to deal with the IP, cookies issue
I think same card or same address (even if you have deleted it) would definitely raise the alarm

        • I mean, it's only $6/$59
If you don't want to pay for the whole year, Why not only join prime during eofy, black Friday and boxing day?

Also get well use of subscribe and save, cancel the subscriptions as soon as you receive the item, you get 10% off and free shipping every time

          • @AsukaST: nope. because ozbargainer.

and yes history of addresses/cards used could raise alarms. just wondering if/when that happens. although people creating thousands of accounts on the same VPN worldwide would have flagged it already.

i guess cc and home address are more likely, but it hasn't happened yet.

I am banned from Amazon AU (Explain below)

There could have been people banned from both Amazon and OzBargain… so the votes might be understated (also, some wise crack might say, for the other categories).

  • If you want to know if you will be banned, basically ask the question 'Am I costing Amazon more money than I'm making them?'. If the answer is 'hell no' then you're really unlikely to get banned.

Amazon generally has really good return policies, but they'll have systems in place to identify likely fraud and they'll cut off customers that cost them money.
