Help me turn my ceiling downlight into a smart one!

Hello
I live in Vietnam and have just moved apartments, my girlfriend bought me a google home mini and the new apartment I moved into has all downlights instead of traditional lightbulbs.

Now i am clueless on how downlights work. I unscrewed the 60cm long downlight in the bedroom to discover a LED Driver with these specifications:
Input ac85-265v
output DC60-87v
600ma

I've been googling forever looking for a smart/wifi LED Driver with these specifications but no luck. Also, if I get an RGB Driver, will it work even though the large plate already provided was not RGB, I'm a massive noob in this area and any help would be appreciated. My room is windowless so I want to set my light to turn on gradually when the sun arrises (during the weekday anyway)

You don't replace the driver, you replace the whole downlight. Although I'm not sure what downlight what be 60cm long…

How is the downlight connected to power? Anything reasonably modern should have a standard power plug on the end, but if you're in Vietnam it could be different.

Generally speaking you pull the downlight out, unplug it and either replace it with a smart downlight (a brand new unit) or plug the old one back in but with a smart power plug in between, like the TP link one that keeps popping up here.

If it is hardwired then I would probably just get a lamp…

  • Yes you're right i think i have to replace the whole thing.
It's a big plate, not really a downlight then i guess.

It has 2 cables running into the driver (1 loose im assuming the earth cable).

We could get a smart power plug inbetween like you said, but i want RGB if possible. I will go have a look at some light shops today.
I was really hoping it would be as easy as changing the driver, but i guess not.

Get bedside lamps with smart bulbs, save yourself the hassle

  • It may be easier to replace the switch with a wifi switch rather than change the bulbs. In fact, I would prefer this because the switch retains functionality alongside Google Home commands. Though I'm not sure if dimmable versions are available.

Have you tried sending them to uni to a degree?

  • Currently holidaying in Vietnam.

In comparison to Australia it's quite difficult to get smart RGB downlights here. The best I've found that is Phillips Hue branded is the recessed downlight, and this will require the Hue Bridge as well.

Alternatively, if you'd rather RGB Downlight that is supported by smart assistants, try this
