Amazon scammers or real

Anyone that has experienced scammers on Amazon and paid for items they did not receive?

I just purchased something that was too cheap but told myself that I am protected in case I don't receive the item.

I will jump out of joy if I receive it ha ha ha

  • It's possible. Avoid buying from random third parties on Amazon unless you verify their identity (e.g. a big seller with tens of thousands of items for sale and thousands of positive feedback).

Stick to items sold/fulfilled by Amazon for cover. If you need smaller items they don't offer, use eBay and Paypal for protection.

    • noob q but how do you tell if the seller is "third party seller" on Amazon

      • under where it says buy now/add to cart it tells you who it's sold by and if it's fulfilled by amazon. if it just says "ships and sold by [company name]" then it's a third party. if it says sold by [company] but fulfilled by amazon it's coming from amazon's warehouse and i think amazon does check the stock beforehand.

        • Yeah this is not that transparent because the listing is the same and shared across multiple sellers regardless of their rating. Some sellers could be selling completely different thing to the others (fake even) and you won't see the difference based on the listing themselves. You have to dig around the seller profile to make your own judgement if they are suss or not.

  • I bought a pair of asics kayanos from China seller, gave me a bogus tracking number that went to a different state.

Amazon looked into it and refunded me, no hassles

  • +1

It's also possible that the item is cheap because it's counterfeit.

I got sent a counterfeit edition of a book from an Amazon third party seller. Amazon refunded me, but it was still a real hassle to return it & then wait for the refund.

It's sad that Amazon does so few checks before letting third party sellers use their platform. They are just hurting their brand name in the long run.

  • I ordered a LP from Amazon and assumed all would be well. It didn't arrive before Christmas after ordering mid-November so I checked up on the order. It was as third-party seller who had woeful reviews. I'm assuming the item was never sent. Currently with Amazon to resolve. Interesting they initially said I didn't qualify for a refund - pushed back and had it escalated within their heirachy. Lesson is to check seller reviews before committing your cash.

  • Very possible. But yes, generally you are protected by Amazon A-Z guarantee, just the annoying waste of time waiting for item to arrive and then try to resolve your issue. In my case the price is average but the item received is different to the pictures, and was also extremely bad quality with even some damages already showing. I got a refund for that and bought another from a more reliable seller

  • Well I don't think I'll be getting this hat which was posted a few weeks back.
