Oculus Quest or Oculus Rift S?

I was thinking of entering the VR world, and am torn between choosing either the Oculus Quest or the Oculus Rift S. With Oculus Link being announced, I am swaying towards the quest, however the issues of the quest being very front heavy is very concerning to me. Since both devices are around the same price, which one would you choose as a first VR device?

Thank you!

  • Do you value portability over ergonomics? Keep in mind that you will need to pay a bit more for the link cable too.

If you are thinking of playing VR games with friends and family(bring it to the living room or friends' place), go with the Quest.

    i think quest+link is about 300+ more than rift-S

if you have a beefy laptop for VR backpack, then rift-S can go untethered as well

I did some deep research into all VR a couple months ago. Rift S all the way, it's what I'll be getting. Unless it takes so long to have the money that there's something better by then lol.

Quest has physical IPD adjustment and S doesn't. I'm outside the "sweet spot" for the S so I went for the quest.

  • Just got the Quest and I am stunned by the brilliance of the product. Extremely portable and easy to use. I've got a high quality Belkin USB 3.0 cable and had it hooked up to Viveport infinity last night. Just a brief go but it is great having the flexability of no cords, but then access to the larger libraries available with a single cord.

  • The physical ipd adjustment and not having to use a cord puts Quest above the rest imo.
In saying that since buying virtual desktop on quest I've played pcvr probably 90% of the time. Link also works well but I just like the freedom of no cable to much.

    • Thanks for the tip. Just grabbed virtual desktop and will go through process of side loading so I can play untethered.

  • Just thought I'd add something. The quest only has a 72Hz refresh rate. The S has a 80Hz refresh.
The VR "sweet spot" is supposed to be 90Hz. Higher refresh rates mean less visual breakups on faster moving games such as beat saber.
Another thing, a higher refresh rate means less chance of VR sickness occurring.
    Just a thought
