Would You Get Your 15 Month Old 3G 46mm Galaxy Watch Repaired for $260 or Just Get a New BT Version When It Goes on Sale Again?

So, I had a bit of drama with my galaxy watch (46mm 3G) - the short is that my back glass broke mysteriously and no amount of complaining (weeks worth) will get it covered under warranty. Prior to the physical damage, it had a bunch of symptoms of damage like the screen blacking out and battery draining fast. I bought it on release, making it roughly 15 months old, meaning 8 months left on Warranty. The repair from Samsung will be $260 (down from $350) because they claim water damage (which I'm confident happened before the mystery back glass breakage) and are apparently pretty much replacing the bulk of the unit.

So, would you repair it or write it off and get a BT watch when it goes on sale, potentially for $300? The 3g is not that useful admittedly, I only ever care about it when I forget my phone at my desk and even then, the SMS reliability is average.

Buy an Apple Watch and call it a day!

Yeah, but you need the iPhone with IOS 13 to go with it.

Better get a MacBook Pro while you're at it

        • You don’t need the MacBook Pro, but you do need the iPhone. The watch isn’t standalone. You setup the watch through the phone and they need to have compatible IOS.

          • @try2bhelpful: Whilst I am tempted to go into the Apple ecosystem for privacy reasons, I'm not a fan of the Apple watch's design.

            • @sheepdog: My Apple Watch 5 does look a tad like a square Death Star has landed on my wrist: but I think the all black bad boy does look pretty good. I don’t like the other colours. The only issue I have is it is very chatty. I need to turn off some of the notifications. Got it about a week ago, so only starting out.

          • @try2bhelpful: Yeah I was just kidding

            • @FireRunner: I was just clarifying my comment. The fact the watch, and phone, are linked is not universally known.
