Looking to buy wifey a pressie. No ideas about dishwashers. Need to do research on what's good etc .
Anyone recommend a good one, budget around 1k- 1.2k. Looking for a good brand, reliable in the long run.

Bosch is definitely the way to go, make sure you are picking up a german made model and not the german engineered, the difference in quality is substantial.
Just go into The Good Guys, they have massive sales targets to hit and just negotiate them down/check what pricing other retailers are doing.There are a few different models between $1k - $1.3k price point, the higher priced ones will just include extra cutlery trays up top and maybe more wash cycles.

$1078 - depends on the salesperson/manager but you should be able to get them to bring it down to around $950.
(don't get Asko or LG, both are ridiculously overpriced for lesser quality)
Many popular previous deals on the Bosch freestanding models, eg here but longterm reliability is hard to be definitive about. Many good comments on Miele also, but mileage varies.
But if you're not looking to be murdered in your sleep maybe consider a different kind of present? ;)
