AMD Ryzen 3 3200G. Quad-core Zen+ processor with integrated Vega 8 graphics. Currently cheaper than the older, slower 2200G. Good option for a budget gaming PC (with two sticks of fairly fast memory on a B450 board).

these are still zen+, its basically the same chip as the 2200g, they were kinda cool when they released, but next year intel will likely have 4c8t i3's
In all fairness, if you're talking about next year, AMD will also have 4000 chips. Why isn't this also factored in?
intel is releasing early next year, we have no information what AMD will have
what i was getting at is the 3200g is actually 2 year old tech now, it's not even using the latest zen 2 architecture
It's only really one year / generation old. It's the current series, using the CPU cores from the last series.
AMD releasing 4000 series APUs with 8 cores in 2020. https://www.techspot.com/news/83292-amd-first-octa-core-apus…
@jonathonsunshine: 2200g was released jan 2018, so around 2 years…
and the upcoming zen 2 apu's look decent, but note there is no release date yet
i'm not saying this is a bad product, just keep in mind that this isn't the newest architecture, it's a rebadge - so a bit lazy on amd's part
@abctoz: the 2200g was 2018, this is the 3200g and was released 6 months ago.
Intels been releasing the same gen for 4 years or so now.
@jonathonsunshine: 3200g was released after zen 2 lineup was released, people may mistakenly believe that the 3200g uses zen 2 architecture, but it's simply a rebadged 2200g with a minor clock bump, and the 2200g is around 2 years old now, that is the distinction
if intel 4c/8t budget i3 chips are releasing next year then they will be astronomical value, just check this thread out for how well they will perform in gaming in relation to amd:

64bit is actually 16 year old tech now, it's not even using latest qubit architecture
Yah, as noted in the post, this is "only" Zen+ but faster than the older model (for both CPU and iGPU) and with better memory support (important for a bandwidth-hungry APU). That's official spec, of course: both 2200G and 3200G are unlocked, but silicon lottery, YMMV, etc. And anyway, this is currently cheaper than the 2200G, so seems to me a win all around.
On the Intel side, true, looks like Intel may plan to Hyper-Thread all the things come 10th-gen. Interested to see what the Gen 11 integrated graphics can do… Would be fantastic if Intel and AMD were both pushing decent APUs!
There's a pretty decent chance that this CPU will be $69 on Boxing Day at the same store as it appeared to finish top 3 in the Boxing Day voting that they had at the site earlier this month.
Did it?! I thought it missed out - saw a "top three most voted" post on FB and it wasn't one of them. If it is going to be discounted though, then yeah, definitely wait!
Basing it only on this page https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/Vote-Save-Xmas-Sale-2019 where it has 46 votes, which is the 3rd most but that doesn't include votes from the FB page itself, so can't be 100% sure it finished top 3.
Ah nice - just dropped my vote on it. That RAM is such a meh deal, frustrating to see it so high up :-(
I have an i5-6400, is this a good upgrade? Will it work in my existing motherboard?
It won't work in your existing motherboard. The best CPUs that you can get with your current motherboard are the i7-7700(k) or i7-6700(k). Both this CPU and the i5-6400 are 4 core, 4 thread CPUs. CPU wise it's a sideways move, however, the integrated GPU is much better in the 3200G if you don't have a discrete GPU in your system.
Thanks, appreciate the help. J really feelj the i5-6400 bottlenecking my gtx 970
Have you tried running whatever game you play and having a monitoring tool open to see what CPU and GPU usage % is?
@divvydan: Yes
Hardly doubt a 6400 will be bottle-necking a GTX 970.
They're not too bad a CPU. Your issue (if any?) may be something else related.
@TilacVIP: Depends on the purpose, cpu intensive games and video editing is a no go
Such good value especially for ESport gamers (more than good enough for LoL, Dota 2, Overwatch on low settings, rocket league etc).
